You guys want to chip in and buy the Eternal Darkness IP?

Quote
Epic Games emerged the victor today in a nearly half-decade civil suit filed against the publisher by Too Human developer Silicon Knights, according to Epic Games' attorney.

Not only did the jury reject all of Silicon Knights' claims, but it found in favor of Epic's counterclaims, awarding the company $4.45 million in damages, according to a press release from Epic Games. Neither Silicon Knights nor their attorney responded to numerous requests for comment today.

"We are delighted with the jury's verdict and all of the hard work done by the Hunton & Williams legal team," said Jay Andrews, Epic's general counsel.

Countdown to Silicon Knights filing for bankruptcy.

Any of their IPs worth picking up on the cheap?

This was the best I could do.

Dennis says they never got that money.
Even if they did, I thought that went into making their shitty x-men game where you don't play as the x-men?

They don't seem like a company that has a lot of liquid cash and if they don't file bankruptcy, Epic is going to be collecting every cent from them.  Then again, maybe Canada laws are different and they have some options.  I honestly can't imagine that if they knew they were looking at a potential judgment against them for 4 million+ and that it would kill their company that they would have stuck to their guns and just hoped for the best in a case that never looked good for them.

Epic has more money, better lawyers, and dozens of companies in similar situations to SK who took Epic's side saying UE3.0 was fine.  This really reeks of SK having no money, on their way to bankruptcy, and maybe they can squeeze some cash from Epic in a settlement to keep the studio a float.

Better companies than SK have gone down for less.

As for the lawsuit, wasn't it started years ago? It seems the whole situation reeks of arrogance and misdirection, and now they are unfortunately paying for it at a time when it hurts them most.

This trial marks the point in which the Denis Dyack story could actually be transformed in to an interesting intellectual property.  I'm thinking a documentary that's Overnight meets The King of Kong.  Dyack is a much more idiosyncratic character then Troy Duffy to boot.

With this verdict and Hostess Brands filing for bankruptcy, I guess this is an "against" year for Dyack.

Nintendo was desperate for western developers making exclusive content for them.  Not the first time they dun goof'd on that front (see the N64 Dream Team).

Microsoft latched onto them because they have more money than sense (see: Rare)  Once Too Human bombed, the mirage went away.  It was going to be all downhill from there.

Too Human was, by most accounts, a mediocre game that as I recall was a pretty major bomb and had been in some sort of development or planning since the PS1. Then you had X-Men Destiny which wouldn't have even cut it graphically or gameplay-wise on Android devices. I honestly don't know why Silicon Knights gained any popularity over the years. Was it that they were exclusive to the Gamecube? Was Eternal Darkness really that good of a game?

How they made it this far confuses the hell out of me. Especially with Dennis Dyack as president, who seems to be a PR nightmare.
Eternal Darkness would have been a really great n64 game, but on gc it lacked an upgrade in gameplay and controls.  It was a very rememberable story and concept though.

You know between the various industry peeps and creative types here on The Bore we could make a better ED sequel than SK ever would have. Let's Kickstarter this shit.

Eternal Darkness was good, but from looking at everything else SK has done I'd wager that this was on accident.

Seriously though, why bother buying this?  It wouldn't even be good to own to troll people with, like the Shenmue license.  If I ever make a fuckton of money I'm gonna offer Sega like 5 mil for that, then hold a press conference to announce there will never be another game.  THE TEARS WILL BE SO SWEET.

Eternal Darkness was cool. MAD MAX ROIVAS.

Was under the impression there were huge layoffs after X-Men and they were basically operating on a skeleton crew.

Does Eidos have full control of Legacy of Kain? Blood Omen isn't on GoG and that's SK's best game.

I think Nintendo owns the Eternal Darkness ip anyhow.
Actually, don't they own a piece of SK?  And by extension, Canada?

Not me.  I'd pump out Shenmue after Shenmue.  I'd dilute the IP with games that would make ET on the 2600 seem like a masterpiece by comparison.  Shenmue Catz?  Why not!  Shenmue Forklift Sim?  Go for it!
