Is the car stereo supposed to make the car honk?
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:01:02 AM »
So after I was done going out tonight with the missus we decided to turn on the stereo and then the car started to honk incessantly. I hit up the user manual to no avail, we had the police come out and deactivate the damn fuse. Stupid Korean car didn't have a proper fuse diagram, thankfully the officer had experience with this. The funny thing is that when we turned on the stereo again it stopped, but now the stereo is dead. I replaced the 10amp fuse already.

So who here is the car tech? I want to know whats the best option for me getting a new stereo system. I'm working with 4x 6½inch speakers and 2x 2inch tweeters. If I'm correct I'm looking for a 4 channel stereo, harness, and cable guide. I want to be able to use Ipod/Bluetooth/USB and possibly HD radio and I need it to be dead simple to install myself.

we couldn't stop it, and the neighbor's were complaining like all hell it was 10pm. Thankfully we don't have horrible crime so cops don't have much to do around here. Its a community service after all.

car stereo installations are usually not simple.  Installing the one in my mini was a pain in the ass.  I had to splice into wires and solder shit.  Most aren't that obnoxious but they're still usually obnoxious.

If you are really set on it being simple then I have a solution.  Buy the stereo somewhere cheap (usually a big box place like Best Buy or online) and then take it to a local mom and pop shop and have them install.  On most cars if you're not having the speakers installed you can get it done for less than 40 bucks.

If you still want to move forward on installing it yourself let me know and I have a few sites with guides and whatnot for different car models (I've installed a stereo in each of my cars and 3 others for friends).

I want to do it myself since it sounds pretty easy, I got diagrams of how to take out the old stereo. Worse issues is none of my lights are working in the car so now I have no choice but to take it in to find out wtf  is wrong. Something obviously shorted and blew out.

What are some good resources Mupepe?

Depends.  What kind of car do you have?  And first find out which stereo you are getting.  The best places for learning are usually car forums.  There's usually a subsection on people installing after market radio equipment in your specific car.

I've got a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, I haven't seen any good forums in my searches sadly.

Start there.  There are 11 people in it right now and the last post was yesterday so it's not dead.  I'm sure you'll get a push in the right direction at the very least.
