There comes a time when if you get pissed off at most of what you see on a message board, you must ask yourself if it is really worth visiting any further. And if the answer is no, it is best just to depart.
I hit this point at GAF about two years ago. The main reason why I came to GAF in the first place, the gaming side, was now a shithole of subcommunities, obnoxious fanboys, obnoxiously insane .gifs from Mama Robotnik, and asspies who freak out if you mention Mario Party 9 sold 60,000 copies that week instead of 62,917. The only refuge from that, the OT, became a place where people just spewed bile and outrage, pissing and shitting blood I'm sure over some issue that they have no actual control over. Stupid threads from stories that were ripped from fark.com were replaced with "man rapes one year old baby, mother facilitated the rapes." It just became an echo chamber of inane outrage.
So long story short, I gave my account to Wrath, and parted ways.
You might think to yourself, "Well, I'm not going to leave because they're a bunch of assholes" but it is a losing effort. If you think you're vital to a message board like GAF, think again. It's like holding back the ocean with a pushbroom. I guess you can keep pushing back or you can just throw the pushbroom away and go find something else to do. It wasn't like I was such a critical piece of GAF but I knew I certainly couldn't change anything so there was little point in trying.
Edit: I thought this thread was going to be a bitchfest about PCfag elitism.
Edit 2: I can't write for shit today. The TL;DR version is that if you dislike a message board so much, leave. If you think you're important enough to the process of a message board of GAF-like size, you're not.
