looking hard at the 2.3ghz retina model with 256gb flash drive. I doubt the upgrade to 2.6ghz/500gb flash drive is worth the extra buxx.

Will likely pull the trigger later today after scoping some review talk.

This is obviously them testing the market with the retina display. I'll probably wait until they introduce that to their lower-end laptops. I'm getting a new laptop after I graduate and I really don't think I can afford a 2500 dollar investment. Maaaaaybe five hundred less.

But sweet Jesus that display. Also ios 6 sounds awesome.

As a new (new?) iPad owner I'm mostly excited about the upgraded Siri, unifying phone numbers with the Apple ID, and maps. The rest is a nice bonus.

was unable to tempt the wife into a retina MBP...she needs it in part for her website work so she said she needs to be able to see web pages 'like normal people do'. Dirtperson

So she got a 2.9ghz/8gb mem 13" MBP and I got the Retina MBP. I work from home, so been wanting something that will let me move around. The sad part is that the Windows machine I remote into probably doesn't even support that high a resolution :'(

apparently the laptop is using a 650m? at that resolution it's probably more for keeping up than games, unless you lower the res or output it.

I wasn't expecting Retina, but 13 inch Macbook Pro still with a 1280x800 display is embarrassing.

1st run Mac hardware typically has some sort of issue. I'm betting the Retina MBP will cause eye cancer or something.

We know these things about new Macs -
1) they'll be expensive
2) they won't be the fastest on the market
3) they'll be the best-built and prettiest on the market
4) millions of people will buy them and talk about any minor fault with them, making it seem like a big deal. The few thousand people who get the same Dell build you got will also find probs at a similar rate but it won't seem like such a big deal 'cause there are only a few thousand of them

Most likely in the fall. I think they've started announcing them at the conference they normally had for the iPod which has been in either September or October for the last four or so years.

I learned the hard way that unless you get on that shit immediately, it is back-ordered (2-3 weeks for mine, although I ordered within a few hours of the announcement).

Also -

1) it's not gonna get any cheaper
2) the specs aren't gonna change for a year so may as well start using it ASAP

I'm pretty sure very few people actually upgrade EVERY year, or at least not everything they own (phone, tablet, notebook, desktop...). I didn't even own a notebook before this, and my wife only got one because a 5 yr old MacBook in her office was failing (battery completely dead).
