Growlanser IV for PSP will assuredly be up there, so will Ys Origin and Tales of Graces F once I actually sit down to play em. A lot of what I'm playing/have played is older stuff (Persona 3 FES, Crusader of Centy, Brain Lord, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, TitS, Starfy 4 and 5, Tombs and Treasure)

Soundtrack wise, Lumines: Electronic Symphony may be the best licensed game soundtrack ever.

Well, I'm usually a year or two behind since I wait for $20-30 sales for most games now.  My GoTY lists are just games I've played in that year.

You're right, it's not very good. That's what happens when you restrict your list to 2012 releases. It will most likely not make the final cut anyway. I'm pretty sure some of the other newer releases I have waiting in my shelf, e.g. Devil Survivor 2 and Inazuma Eleven 2, will push it out from the top 10.

This year I've played Final Fantasy XIII-2, Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon Future Solider, Asura's Wrath, Tales of Graces F, Lolipop Chainsaw, Binary Domain, Witcher 2 Console, and Mass Effect 3. While I can't really say any of these games were bad, I'm not sure any are GOTY material.

My top choices would be:

Asura's Wrath and Binary Domain.

Asura's Wrath isn't really a game, but the art and story left a great impression on me. Really enjoyable and great stuff there. Pretty much everything that's not the game part is great.

Binary Domain was really fun to play and one of the better TPS in this post Vanquish world, but the story felt a little underdeveloped to me. Great premise, but didnt go as far or excite as much as I wanted. Still a good game.

I'm one of the people who likes XIII, but XIII-2 was just kind of meh. A really good soundtrack and a kind of cool new main character with great voice acting doesn't really make the terrible plot better. Nor does it make up for the "lets just throw as much into the blender and hope we please people" aproch they took with the game. Also sucks that the battle system has been messed with. While yes they fixed some annoying user issues with it, the actual battles are way too easy, meaning the changes don't matter anyway. Also hate the monster system.

Max Payne 3 was ok. Great presentation, but the overly in your face "look at me I'm Dark!" Max was kind of annoying and outside of Max there's little plot to care about. The gameplay did'nt really seem to know how mix with everything. Jumping around sucks when you constantly bump into things of which there are many because hey this is also a cover game, oh and now the animation needs to take over while you get up. Ok, but not perfect.

Tales of Graces was fun, but nothing amazing. Shitty lead with ok supporting characters. It is what it is, which is a Tales game. It's not something that would blow me away, hell I haven't even finished the main course yet.

Lolipop Chainsaw is an actual good game with some charming personality. It will probably appear low on my GOTY list because well I like personality in my games, espically those from Grasshopper. Doesn't hurt that they made an actual good game this time as well.

Witcher 2 was good. Great graphics and fun gameplay, but dare I say whatever. It kind of lost steam with me as it went on. Good, but I'm not sure about the hype. The 3rd act was pretty annoying, with a level that sucked to walk around.

Mass Effect 3, meh.

Ghost Recon is also fun. The mp is too much CoD influence which kind of sucks, but I like shooting people so whatever I guess. Not GOTY material for me.

I don't think I bought a game I disliked this year.  Resident Evil Revelaitons is probably the worst one.

I've played three very good games this year. Diablo 3, Trials Evolution, and Mass Effect 3. My favorite of those is trials.

I've also played a number of good games this year but ones that are pretty flawed and knock them down a peg. That would include SSX, Max Payne, and The Pinball Arcade.


Those are the best games I've played this year so far.


For the second half of the year I'm looking towards Borderlands 2, NBA 2k13, Halo 4, and AC Creed 3, Blacks Ops 2, Darksiders II, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Torchlight 2.  Resident Evil 6 should also be there but RE 5 makes me skeptical.

Nothing for certain yet. I need to play botanicula, and I'd like to try Journey and Alan Wake. It's hard for me to remember what actually came out this year that I bought. I passed on D3 because I played the demo and could see that it would be best to wait and see. I've mostly played betas and demos, while grabbing a few older games along the way. The best game I've played is GW2, but that's just a beta. Quantum Conundrum comes out in a couple of days, and Tiny & Big is out today. I'll most likely be grabbing Quantum, so that will be the first test.

this year was fucking awesome so far.  mass effect 3 and diablo 3 were both great (even tho i've barely scratched the surface on d3), and i started playing skyrim and i'm now like 120+ hours in with maybe a third of the content complete. i also bought me3 and d3 for full price, something i havent done in YEARS.  everyone crying over the death of games can go sit in a corner; the last two years have been unstoppable.

1. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown - The best fighting game.
2. Under Defeat HD - The best Grev game.
3. Mushihime-sama 360 - Only spent time with Original mode so far in both versions.
4. Binary Domain - 2nd best TPS this gen & it has an entertaining story and characters.
5. House of the Dead 4 - Really like what I've played so far, but I haven't spent a lot of time with this yet.
6. Diablo 3 - Decent time waster.
7. BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend - Was fun for a while, but online was kinda dead back when I tried playing so I lost interest pretty quickly.
8. Street Fighter x Tekken - Decent game from what I played, but I don't think I'll be playing it any more when there are a bunch of superior fighting games out there.
X. Asura's Wrath - Not a good game, but the story/cutscenes were kinda entertaining.
X. Ninja Gaiden 3 - Mediocre on Hard, bad on Master Ninja, atrocious on Ultimate Ninja. Mission Mode sucks too.

Pretty sure those are all of the 2012 releases I've played so far.

I kinda hated VF5 vanilla for the PS3. The core game was good but it didn't pack enough value. To me that's the only pitfall of VF lately. However this game's model is completely different so I have no idea.

VF5 for 360 was awesome. VF5 for ps3 kinda sucked because of lack of online play and iirc less modes. Did VF5 for ps3 have the mode where you go to different arcades each with varying difficulty with actual VF player AI? Because VF5 360 did and it had insane value.

It was brought up in the other thread, but you should be aware that VF5:FS doesn't have a Quest/Kumite mode.  On the other hand, the game is $15.

Do either DLCs contain anything aside from item customization?

If you buy ALL of the item packs it unlocks "Special Sparring Mode" that has the special A.I. variations from VF5's Quest/Kumite, but it's more like a limited survival marathon.  There are no rankings or visiting arcades or anything like that.

Note that Dungeon Village isnt especially difficult, and its end game kind of falls apart BUT, got six hours out of it easily.
