the wife has a view on this - basically that the stereotype of "women gamers" is not helped by creating GRRRRR GIRLS YAH! groups that are "GIRL GAMERS WITH ATTITUDE ... GRRRR"

Just get normal looking regular female gamers and just show in a non "unf unf unf" light that they can know at least as much as men.

The Fel Day thing - i sort of agreed with the sentiment in the statement if applied to ALMOST EVERYONE in the "Video Game Journalist" space, there were a couple of elements though that brought her sex into it which , obviously, you can't do.

Nothing better than snorty derision when you tell someone at TGS that , no, you aren't in the gaming industry. :cry

I don't even know who Felicia Day is.  If she is some video gaming personality, I don't care to know who she is.

The only woman related gaming controversy I can think of was the Jade Raymond thing.  All I know is that in the weeks leading up to Ass Crud being released, Ubisoft was all "AH JYEAH, CHECK OUT THIS HOT CHYKK MAKING YO FUCKING VIDEOGAME.  SHIT, YOU FAT LOSERS CAN'T HANDLE A BITCH (BABE IN TOTAL CONTROL OF HERSELF!!!1!) THIS HOT MAKING A GAME THAT WILL KICK...YOUR...ASS!!!!!!"  Then the internet reacts the way the internet does.  You didn't hear shit about Jade Raymond with future Ass Crud games because Ubisoft went a different way promoting the games.  You didn't see any backlash like the original because they found a way to promote the game without talking about how hot Jade Raymond was and why we should all have a chub because of it.

I have no problem with Felicia Day, she seems smart and is obviously attractive. The dude who trolled her probably deserved to get shitcanned. It's high time nerds got publicly shamed for the way they categorically stereotype, demean, and dismiss females who like games or work in the gaming industry (especially in media roles)

It was either a gender thing or a personal thing.  He likely wasn't commenting on the uselessness of gaming media types, as he himself is one.
Feels and looks more like a personal thing to me. Jealousy, envy, whatever. More based on the realization of his own low standing vs her (undeserving in his mind) high standing and the realization he would not ever reach that level of popularity.

That jealousy is rooted in gender though. The general issue here always boils down to people believing all women don't have to work as hard as men to advance in the gaming industry, or just about any industry tbh (again, especially media). Gaming forums tend to react quite negatively to just about every female personality who enters their lair. Hell, just look at the shit Aisha Tyler faced at E3.

Women in games are meant only to either be sexual objects or precious, "realistic" characters the male player must feel obligated to save or protect, thus providing some faux emotional connection to appease the need to validate gaming as art. Women in the game industry are also either dismissed outright as attractive airheads who know nothing about gamez or seen as some type of infiltrator/threat.

Pretty much.

If a girl is interested in games at all, she's instantly suspect to the hive mind of idiocy.  If she just likes casual games, she's a tourist and doesn't "get" the hobby.  If she likes to shoot shit, she's a dumb fragmuffin who has no appreciation for "masterpieces" like ICO or whatever.  If she's into jrpgs, uh... she's just saying that to keep her totally cool boyfriend around or whatever.  In no instance can she be legitimately interested in gaming because ZOMG THIS IS OUR SPECIAL PLACE, YOU AND YOUR TITS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

If she's involved in the industry at all, hoo boy even worse.

it must be extremely uncomfortable amongst the white knights, creeps, and passive aggressive assholes. I'm surprised no "big" female personalities have truly, truly snapped by now outside of Taylor (who to be fair is not really a member of the gaming industry/media, and is instead a gamer).

In general the industry is about as gender sensitive/aware as professional wrestling is, i.e. not at all. The demographics of the people in charge and video game consumers plays a big part of this. The only way I see it normalizing is if more women get involved in the gaming and industry side to balance that out.

Read from the bottom up.
Quote from: David Jaffe
the game biz began to mature when it comes to how everyone is treated (while not losing the teeth), i think it's kinda lame all these guys [who are] leaping to her defense (which she can clearly do on her own...if you've met here, you fucking KNOW she can) but these same voices are nowhere to be found/heard when it's men ripping men in the biz. if we really want equality, then fuck it, let's be white knights for anyone being unfair treated (my vote) or shut the fuck up about all of this equality stuff and just admit we don't really mean what we say.
