Vesperia and Graces F are good games so going by their track record, Xillia is worth buying.

Well importers say that Xillia was "disappointing" after Graces F - but that could be just expectations after playing what some consider a good Tales game. I watched battle clips and it seems good enough. And it's not a port or up-res so this is a new HD tales.

Namco Bandai Games Europe announces TALES OF XILLIA™ on Playstation®3

The latest Tales of title makes its way to EMEA and Australasia in 2013

From the Japan Expo event, NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. today announced that it will be bringing Tales of Xillia™ brand to EMEA and Australasia exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The latest in the acclaimed Tales of Japanese role-playing game franchise, Tales of Xillia lets players enter the world of Rieze Maxia in a tale of unwavering convictions. Tales of Xillia will be available across EMEA and Australasia in 2013.

“The recent success for last autumn’s release of Tales of the Abyss™ and the anticipated release of Tales of Graces™ f and its exclusive European Edition has helped make localizing Tales of Xillia for the western market one of the easiest decisions we have ever made,” said Olivier Comte, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Publishing for NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. “The latest game in this prolific series gives gamers a brand new world and cast of characters to adventure with along with its celebrated battle system that has yet to be rivaled by other Japanese RPGs.”

Tales of Xillia follows Jude Mathis, a clever medical student attending school in the capital city, and Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman accompanied by four unseen beings. Players will be able to choose either Milla or Jude at the outset of their adventure through the world of Rieze Maxia, where humans and spirits live together in harmony. The kingdom of Rashugal has been experimenting with a powerful device that has been draining the mana from the world. Realizing the harm it is inflicting on the world, Milla and Jude set off on a journey to destroy it and restore the mana back to the world. Over the course of the game their lives will intersect with a vast ensemble of characters that will teach them the strength of unwavering convictions and they are accompanied with the responsibilities it entails.

Players will engage enemies with the critically acclaimed Linear Motion Battle System that the Tales of series is famous for. The system allows for real-time movement and attacks, giving the player a more tactical role in the midst of fights. The battle system in Tales of Xillia has been upgraded to Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System to let two characters combine their attacks to utilize devastating dual-character attack, letting fans strategize the best party setup for their style of play.

Graces was great- and in many ways I prefered it to Vesperia- both are great games tho so whatever. Abyss is also good, and its nice that the 3DS version finally brings a non-busted version

It's good.

The combat isn't as fast or as techincal as Graces F, the support systems (for leveling and whatnot) aren't as interesting either.  At the same time though, it's got a bunch of new presentation things it's trying out which give it a fresh feel, like the conversations that happen while you walk in place of some more redundant conversations / skits (similar to FF13).  It's different in a similar way to how Legendia was different from the Symphonia / Destiny mainline games, but not quite as much of a failed experiment.  It's definitely got a slick feel to it on the surface, but it's not as refined as the Destiny games felt.  Great soundtrack too, no Shinji Tamura.

Basically temper your expectations.  If you liked Vesperia and Graces, you'll probably like this too, but it's not going to blow your mind.

There are a lot of flaws with Graces F though. While I really liked the game, it has an uninspiring story. If Xillia is falling short in the battle system compared to Graces, then I am just fine with it if the story and characters are improved in Xillia.

And from what I heard; Xillia has a better story.

I hear the Xillia story is good for Tales standards.  I didn't get far enough to really tell.  The battle system is ok, not great, not bad.  But the field/dungeon/town exploration is really bad in this one unfortunately.  HD areas are hard and all that.  Also the shop system is balls.

I liked graces for the battle system because the story was as dull it can be. The child arc was the most interesting one, and that was like 10% of the game.

Tales is one of the better jrpg series these days. Look at the l terrible rpgs released this gen and you realize why people rejoice over every Tales of announcement.

Quote
Lost Odyssey, Magna Carta II, Resonance of Fate, Infinite Undiscovery, Final Fantasy XIII, Star Ocean 4, blue dragon

Vesperia alone shits all over that list ^

the ds one is poop, are you surprised? they were made by alfa systems or something.

apparently tales of hearts are much better.

Turn-based for life, but sadly it's pretty much dead on consoles outside the Atelier games.

The change up to the battle systems was about all Graces had going for it. Terrible story, characters, environments and dungeons. So if this one is an improvement on any of those I'll be pleased.

It is my preference, yes. I did however love Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean (3 in particular), Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story and many other battle systems. Tales is just downright bad.

I never played the bonus dungeon in vesperia, is it good? I am playing zonecage right now in graces and that place is awesome. Currently racking up 400K per fight in exp.

nah it's just a bunch of random rooms strung together where you refight more reskinned monster and stronger version of all the previous bosses

worse yet,to get the real reward you have to get 15 thingamajig but whetever you get them is totaly random so you have to repeat it over and over until you get them all (at least they aren't super rare and it's common enough to get at least 1 per run)

the real reward is
