home theater suggestion? (hdmi switching receiver)
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:40:33 PM »
Hey, i have 6 devices which do HDMI, more than my TV can support, so I need a way to route them all to my speakers, but haven't bought a receiver since about 2005 which means that it's been a while since I've had to think about this

my apartment really only supports a stereo setup, so I don't need 7.1 or what have you

Any suggestions?

I've been looking at receivers as well, for my game setup... Doing a bit of research, Yamaha seems to make good receivers with a lot of inputs that won't break the bank... there's this Denon receiver with a million inputs but it's like $4000, which is like WHAAA?

You can also just buy a HDMI switchbox, they can be bought at Amazon for like under $20:

my concern with those is that they may not do the DRM crap properly and thus may not show picture or play audio properly, otherwise i'd be all about those

I am happy with my Pioneer receivers.

I used to route all my devices via HDMI but now I use two optical cables; one from the tv to the Astro gaming mixamp and the other from said mixamp to the Pioneer reveiver. This way I can use both my receiver for all devices and consoles and also use my Astro gaming headset.

I've got an Onkyo TX-SR609B which is pretty damn awesome.  Might be overkill thought if you really only want stereo.  I'm sure there are better options for that.  But it's fairly inexpensive
