So, Gamecube Games - Your List of Essentials
« on: January 07, 2007, 09:35:39 PM »
Wobe will be mailing me a Gamecube + stuff this week, so I'm looking to compile a list of Essential Gamecube titles.  I never paid much attention to GC stuff, so I know next to nothing about the games.  I bought Chibi Robo at the Toys R Us Clearance for $10, so I have that.  I am interested in Eternal Darkness and Paper Mario from what I've read.  What else?  Keep in mind that I don't really care for RPGS.

I went down to Gameplop yesterday and they were CLEANED OUT of anything remotely playable on the Cube.  It was down to like Animal Crossing and EA games.

Mine:

Zelda Wind Waker
Mario Sunshine
Skies of Arcadia

Those three I have played and liked a lot, and are the REASON I rebought a gamecube.

My COMPLETE list is:

Zelda Wind Waker
Mario Sunshine
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero
Metroid Prime
PN03
Billy Hatcher
Killer 7
Fire Emblem
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door

annd I might pick up Bloody Roar as my last cube buy. Nabbing Skies and Fire Emblem at that gameplop was the best outing evar lolz.

- Resident Evil 4
- Mario Sunshine
- Metroid Prime (not Echoes, that sucks)
- Pikmin
- Pikmin 2 (like the first only LARGELY fleshed out, so if you like 1 you'll love two a whole lot more)
- 1080 Avalanche (well, i think it's nice)
- Beyond Good & Evil
- MegaMan Anniversary
- MegaMan X Collection
- Metal Gear Twin Snakes (better than the original)
- Resident Evil Zero
- REmake
- Wind Waker
- Twilight Princess (if you dont have it for Wii of course)

I've noticed my local game stores are pretty barren of GC games, too.  How impossible-to-find are component cables?

I wouldn't care if the game was actually good. It's like a fucking RTS for children. (and I know...SSBM is like a fighting game for children WHATEVER FUCK YOU) I can't imagine the second being all that much different.

I edited the "made-up" part pretty damn quickly Drinky. :lol Jesus, you must be hitting F5 every few seconds.

And I can even admit SSBM is pretty damn gay, but it's still fun as hell since I play it with friends. Pikmin you have to sit by myself and wallow in your gayness.

I've got two more Gamecube games to pick up before calling my collection complete:

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Baten Kaitos Origins

I should probably pick them up soon, seeing how all the GC sections have been cleared out in the Seattle area.

Eel, the mechanics are terrible -- you really only need to shift-select the head of any monster for a quick and easy kill. The puzzles are sub-RE. The writing is uniformly awful, like a teenager's take on Lovecraft. The art and modeling are amateurish, and the "sanity" effects are cheesy and annoying. It's one of those games that sound great in concept to content-deprived Ninthings, but are in fact mediocre-bordering-on-amateurishly-awful.

Have yu played Obscure? That's pretty cool. Controls pretty cruddy though.

I think Scratches is one of the best Point N Click horror themed games in a long while.

After this GC purchase and a couple of games, I'm going to put a pause on my used/cheap video game buying for a while.  Between 360, PSP, DS, PS2, and GC, I already have a backlog of games large enough to keep me occupied for months.

F-Zero GX
Zelda: TWW
Super Mario: Sunshine
Soul Caliber 2 (for Link, maybe not worth it if you already have it)
SSBM
Pikmin 1 or 2
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe

It's better then on xbox and probably ps2.  The kidney buttons actually make it better and faster.  And Link is the easiest and fastest of all the exlusive characters.

I like seeing PN03 get some props.  Love that game.  But no one likes Metal Gear Solid TTS and Beach Spikers?

I imagine playing soul calibur 2 on GC is much like wrestling an octopus.

It's not bad, really, since the game only uses four buttons.  I just set the triggers to guard and used the face buttons for attacks...it worked great.  I like Link the best of the exclusive characters, too.  Although at this point I don't care about SC2 since I can play SC3 instead...

Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 is also quite awesome, if you want a GC-only fighter.  It's like a much better version of Bloody Roar.

The only games I enjoyed on the Gamecube were the Resident Evil games and Zelda: Four Swords (holy shit this game was fun!). Everything else sucks or blows. Gamecube was the weakest of the sauces man. I have no idea why you would willingly purchase one now with the Wii being out and all.

I used to be quite the Game Cube nut at one time.  I'd go and get the GC versions of games over the PS2 and XBox versions, but then I came to my senses.  :P  The system was pretty good for a year or two, then kinda went downhill from there.  I keep hoping the Wii isn't going to turn out the same way, but I already get the feeling it's going to be the same, with only the Nintendo and the occasional third party game worth playing.  Right now I only play it in multiplayer...everyone really does love to play Wii Sports for a little bit.

how is zelda four swords single player? I doubt ill be able to get four people together to play on a regular basis, I could do two but thats about it lol.

It's not bad at all...has some nice dungeon designs, even if a lot of it feels like Link To The Past Remix.  I should go back and get that myself.

Forget multiplayer.  You gotta have a GBA and GBA-GC cord for every player.   :-\

Nope, GBAs and cables are required.  It's so dumb since when you play single player, you can play with a controller just fine, and going into houses and indoors shows up on the screen.  In multi, all that moves to the GBA screen.  Such a bad move by Nintendo.
