Yup- 20GB models didn't have wi-fi.  I didn't care about that in 2006 so I saved some cash and bought the less-expensive PS3 model.  Now I wish I had it- I run all of my consoles wired (even the Wii, or rather I would if I ever turned it on) but there are times when I move the PS3 around or bring it somewhere that it would come in handy.

Only time wireless mattered to me was for the PSP remote play stuff.  Otherwise, I've kept my 60 gig plugged in since, uh, whenever Calling All Cars came out or that Gran Turismo HD demo thing and I got terrible speeds with wireless.

One of these days I need to see if I can transfer my PS2 saves back onto memory cards (I have that dongle somewhere) if/when it dies.

I did it with an Intel X25-M. It doesn't do well for most games, limited by the shitty sata 1 interface.

otoh, it halves the installation and loading times for GT5, now they're just nearly unbearable instead of absolutely ridiculous.

the XMB is a bit snappier. It's totally not worth the money.

No.

But in general, the "install" option on 360 is to prevent the 747-like engine whine of the optical drive from making you crazy. The PS3 hasn't really had that problem with BD-ROM read speeds, plus any of the content which would benefit from a greater access speed is usually on the required crazy-huge HDD install.

I install everything on usb flash,runs better than on my hdd.

Slower read doesn't mean much(few seconds here or there), but tons of games are limited by crappy random access times and flash runs circles around optical and hdd in that department.Meaning that your in-game performance will be smoother.

Skyrim is always on my usb stick.

The only major disappointment with the "flash-RAM device Install" implementation is that it only works on the 360 on which the rip was executed. If I could just drag the USB around with me to other 360s, I'd be pretty happy.

The heavily rumoured super slim PlayStation 3 has been advertised ahead of its expected Tokyo Game Show reveal this week.

Polish website Polygamia.pl (via TheSixthAxis) reported on a picture found in a promotional newsletter for Polish electronics store chain Media Expert teasing a new PS3 model alongside a 28th September date. Sony's TGS press conference begins at 5am UK time on Wednesday 26th September. The new console may release on the Friday, 28th September, then.

Notes provided to retailers suggest two models: 12GB and 500GB. The 12GB model will cost €199 (around £160). The 500GB model will cost €299 (around £240).

Images of the machine depict a black device labelled as a PS3, but with a ridged texture and what looks like a sliding top panel. Word on the grapevine is it looks like a toaster. Yum.

12GB would make it impossible to play more than one game at once. The install space required for some games is +4GB and quite a bit of the PS3's HDD is taken up by OS stuff.

I also don't think you could download games because you need 2x the size of the game free -- the game downloads (7gb) then decompresses (another 7gb) and then deletes the installer.

I have a 20GB also, with a 160GB drive swapped into it for no fucking reason. Connected by wire. I used to have a wireless access point thing plugged into it but the PS3 would boot everyone off the network when I turned it on
