Analogue sticks. Concave or convex?
« on: July 19, 2012, 02:10:18 PM »
I'm okay with both but I think convex is better i.e. like Nintendo and Sony do it.

The thumb basically rolls on the convex stick. With concave sticks, only the tip of the thumb is used to push the stick in directions. You can also do the rolling motion, which is why I'm okay with both, but I prefer convex slightly more.

What does the indigenous Borian population say?

Concave for me, I have sweaty little hands so I prefer the thumb security concave provides. Bought that Orbz triggers and thumb sticks for my PS3.

I feel i lose reaction time and precision when thumbing it from the side, especially in games I need to aim a gun in. Concave doesnt hurt my thumbs, neither does convex, really the only think I remember fucking up my thumbs was the NES d-pad and the ridged sega genesis knockoff 6 button d-pads and buttons.

I prefer convex sticks for the reasons listed in the OP. Even though my hands can get sweaty in intense games, it's never to the point that I lose grip of the sticks.

I don't really care, I've had more experience with convex so that's what I'm more comfortable with but concave feels appropriately comfortable when I've used it.

I'd have to go with concave on this one. Also, the smooth surface on the Dual Shock is way better than those stupid target rings on Nintendo controllers.

Concave are more comfortable, probably.  The newer 360 controllers with a deeper dip are nice.  I don't notice while playing either way.

I only mind if the grip is bad, like on the Dreamcast, N64, PSP, and 3DS.

The DC stick is probably the worst ever, utterly horrible.

I think on a convex stick the rings are important so your thumbs don't slip. Better than the GC stick's ribbing at least, one of the only bad parts of that controller.

MLG controllers allow either on both platforms.

although I prefer concave.
