I think on some level she had to know. Just shows that some people will put up with all sorts of insanity to preserve a relationship... I just reconnected with a friend and found out that she was getting beaten by her ex on a regular basis, to the point where she almost died a couple of weeks after giving birth to their second child. She's fine, the kids are fine and he's in jail but she said that "it was just something I was used to" which kind of boggled my mind.
