I played Just Cause 2 multiplayer all day on a server with like a thousand people. The kids in the chat were a lively bunch, let me tell you. I think if you removed all the racists from Steam you'd be left with 3 dudes.

I don't pay attention to game chats, especially when I'm trying to avoid spoilers (TDKR). In terms of racist shit, what do you expect. Most people who play games are shut ins of all colors, and dumb as shit. If I want to hear nonsense I'll call up my 4 year old cousins, the last thing I'll do is read it online. And if I do read it...I...don't care.

I'm far more annoyed by hearing stupid shit in voice chat (mumble/vent/team speak), especially if it's a team or community setting. There's a guy who used to come into the GAF SC2 mumble and say all type of racist shit, and you could hear Fox News in the background. If it's a random dude I have to play with for a few games, who cares. But having a racist or dumb member of your team/community is horrible.

Turning chat off might be a good idea, but this whole game genre seems to be build about being annoying.

Leave a game? OH OH.

Why is it possible to leave a shooter or do you own thing without this shit and it's not possible in DOTA?

Because Dota requires more teamwork than any shooter, and having one person doing poorly or leaving after 5 minutes is a major handicap.
