Yard work (no Brits allowed)
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:55:54 PM »
Slow day at work. While looking out the window I couldn't help but be reminded how much I like summer yard work. As a kid I hated having to be out digging holes for my mom's plants, putting down mulch etc; I always liked cutting the grass though. Now I enjoy summer work, especially the payoff of seeing how nice it looks afterward.

IMO the worst season for work is fall. I haaaate bagging leaves and doing gutters. I have no problem with shoveling in the winter, but I'd imagine it would suck if you lived somewhere where it snowed heavily. The last few years have been rather uneventful during the winter; last year we had one "big" snow day, and it wasn't even enough to close anything down.

Mowing anytime but Spring/Early summer for gardening.  Yeah, bitches.  I'll mow your lawn for 15 bucks, btw.  PM me.

I just realised why Yard Work has such negative connotations: the phrase sounds like a prison thing, and then I realised that the predominant founders of the US were Presbyterians, which is an anagram of Britney Spears, who was part of the MKUltra experiment, which was funded (unofficially ofc) by various nameless members of the MID.

We call it gardening. It sounds nicer.

Well, I can tell you that RIGHT NOW is definitely not the best time of the year to do yard work.

100+ degrees all day everyday. :'(

Outdoor maintenance is the worst thing about being a homeowner. Mowing, pulling weeds, trimming branches, raking leaves, etc.? They all fucking suck. If it was socially acceptable, I would gladly astroturf my lawn just like that Brady Bunch house.

i can't do much in the yard anymore outside of managing a garden

i used to love mowing the lawn, and i was quite good at it too. now the vibrations from the motor put my back in pain for days, as well any attempts at pushing the lawn mower uphill :'(

I've lived in two houses. One had a huge backyard with several crops and flowers that had to be picked and watered. And there were these thin lanes of grass between everything making mowing a pain in the ass. The second house had a tiny backyard with a couple trees and the grass was one large rectangular patch.

I liked the second house more. And this is California, we don't have seasons so yard work is always basically the same.

I hate doing yardwork, hence why I chose a townhouse over a regular house. Too bad the landscaping company here is kinda shite.

That's a good suggestion, but until I get a raise or my wife starts working again, even illegal Mexican labor is out of my price range for the time being for something as nonessential as landscaping.

I love working in my yard. We've got planter boxes on the side and the cucumbers, tomatoes and squash are all ripening up. Strawberries and blueberries soon. I'm also building a pergola on our back patio next week. Gonna grow hops on it. :rock

I miss doing yard work :( Too hot plus baby. My herbs and tomatoes are doing good, and my flowers looked all pretty. Also, my lavender bloomed :bow2

Fuck fall though. So many trees, and I refuse to pay $5/bag for the trash co to take my yard waste and sell it to a mulching co. Fuck raking too. Last year we blew all the leaves into one spot of the lawn and my husband ran over that shit with the riding mower and mulching blade. We put it in our flower beds. Looked like shit until spring when we bought more mulch but fuck it, my plants were protected and did great this year.

Our driveway is flat and relatively small. I grew up with a huge driveway on a steep ass hill. I'll shovel my driveway over my parents' every day of the week.

I fucking hate yard work, when I buy my own house one day the first thing I am going to do is salt the fucking earth so nothing grows.

Great timing, I just put together our picknick table yesterday evening.

The rest of the yard is a wasteland for now, today the first tiles go in the backyard.
This is the first time I own a yard, fun!
