Soul Bubbles traumatized me with its shittiness so I'd give Jarosh the #1. (plus I love FF7 and Seinfeld)

I thought he was a Nintard?  Either way, there is no fucking way that Genesis music was better than SNES music.  I'd say the SNES music was leagues better than the competition until CD based gaming emerged.

Wasn't that argument always related to the hardware?

Anyhow when it comes to sound, I always trust jarosh implicitly, it's his area of expertise.

I prefer Genesis because it's what I grew up with but they're both great at their own styles.

SNES SF2 music sucked shit. Genesis and Arcade for life.

SNES and Genesis soundchips are just vastly different from a technical level, so it doesn't really make sense to compare them, it's basically a Sampler vs. a Synth.

Streets of Rage 2 ost stomps and shits all over Mega Man X ost. SNES is better at trying to emulate orchestrated, hollywood-esque tracks. Genesis is all about dat :rock

It's truly sad how all these indie games polluting the industry today have yet to understand what it's like and what it takes to deliver a moment that can really just pull you in like that one.

Yeah, I can jump along walls and avoid spinning blades or dig for rocks or something stupid. But can you make me feel?

Genesis chip probably helps because it sounds like a lot of mainstream music from the 80's/90's so that really helps if you raised up during that time period.

Not even the globetrotters can beat Wai Wai's all star cast!

I'm going to replay the game tomorrow, it takes like 2 hours to beat at most and it has twin bee, gradius, castlevania, frogger, fuuma, goemon, contra and other obscure references :bow

Best NES game ever imo :bow

That's just the thing. The SNES is not even that good at the thing it's better at than the Genesis. Today, even the best "emulated orchestra" soundtracks from the SNES era sound incredibly outdated. But the Genesis' strength, synthesized music, will always sound timeless. Maybe at one point SNES music could have been considered more impressive sounding than Genesis music. But now that we have *real* orchestras in games, there's no longer any need for that kind of poor emulation/imitation. However, there's always a place for decent (FM) synthesis (which is not outdated and hasn't been replaced by anything) and chiptunes (because they have their own distinct, digital sound and personality and don't try to emulate real instruments).

I agree.

I think the main exception are the Dragon Quest games, and that's mostly because Sugiyama is a trained classical musician.

Genesis was better for house, techno, industrial and synthpop, but shit at everything else... I will take the soundtracks of SOM and CT over nearly every single Genesis game by far though.

Sorry MAF, but some of us have a soul dammit! And when that poorly fleshed out character was killed by the guy who may or may not have been a clone -- or something -- and had that ridiculously long but badass curved blade, I just lost it. At that point, our motley crew of unlikable douche bag with bad hair and unwieldy sword, Mr. T with gun arm, big tits chick, lion guy, and Cid wanted, nay, demanded justice against Sephiroth/Sephiroth's clone/whatever the fuck it was.

I dare you to show me a more tragic scene in fiction that is more powerful than that. It can be from any medium. Go ahead, try!

I could swear that I have. However, I don't remember anything except that their competitors were using some special formula that -- when put into a burger patty -- would make it really big. And that's all I've got. Am I forgetting a powerful scene where Kel dies or something?

I can't remember myself, only that I was more moved on the whole by that film then by Final Fantasy VII.  I do think Kenan and Kel have a pretty big falling out at one point that tore pretty deep.

90's nick films owned.

harriet the spy is another tragic film! She spies on friends and then the bitch girl reads aloud all of the stuff she writes about her friends in her journal! I read the book a few months later but it's not as emotionally gripping as the film was! Harriet the Spy was perfect for an 11 year old!

Harriet the spy was genuinely a downer.  I'll always remember when Sport found the diary entry that read: " Sport is way too poor for my taste.  Enjoy 'pasta night' you penniless taco".  That was pretty cold.
