WiiU - some questions
« on: August 08, 2012, 05:38:34 PM »
1. Do you need a tv even to play with this? I mean is it just possible to play game streaming only? I dont own a tv and not really planning on getting one soon.
2. Whats the max distance of the streaming?

Shits got me thinking this could be a cool thing to chill out on the couch on next to the missus, bit better then ghettoing it with the Vita or putting the laptop on my lap.

1. I think it's on a game-by-game basis, but most games should have it.
2. I think a room or two away. Not very long.

I'm buying one for my daughter, who should be about three when it goes on sale, she also has a 90 year old great grandmother to play it with.

Which is basically both ends of Nintys target audience spectrum.

Its entirely up to the developer, which means you'll have to research every game to see if it has a non tv option.  Mass Effect 3 has like, a touch interface for position your squadmates and touch screen icons for fast powers usage, but you can opt out and just play it on the pad.  Just to bring things down to earth, the battery life on the controller is 3-5 hours and the touch screen is resistive tech.

That's 3DS and Vita battery life, what the fuck did Nintendo put in that controller?

I've been on this forum too long. My gut instinct for that acronym was "WHimsy Digital Interface" before googling.

The low-latency wireless video streaming is pretty impressive.  I think it's restricted to the same room, but there are cases where the controller screen reacts faster than the TV (to be fair, they could be wimpy TVs).  If it were a PC accessory, I'd totally pick one up; low resolution and all.  Or even if it supports wireless streaming of Wii and virtual console games (and gamecube? or is that gone?)

I duno about Europe but here you can pick up some piece of shit 32" HD set for a few hundred. That+360 would probably be similar to opening prices on WiiU, and would still be far better than playing on that junk 480p screen, and from what I understand not all games are going to support pad only play.
