psp versions sucked, tho.  no right stick for analog, no online, sub-ps2 graphics, gross 480x272 resolution, retreads of console versions, etc.  playing tri g on 3ds is a whole new ball game.

but really, I'd rather Capcom focus on bringing Monster Hunter 4 over within a reasonable period.  Tri is already on the Wii if you want to play it. This is like the first cash in Monster Hunter on Wii that never made its way over.  No one cared about that.

Agreeing with duckroll?

leper this filth

He's right though - i'm constantly amused by people who are "big monster hunter fans" or moan about "splitting the userbase" when their list of played monster hunter games to date looks like this :

Monster Hunter Tri
-end-

et tu, Andrex?

hahahahahahaaaaaa

yes, psp version sucked, 3DS is a whole new ball game with it's no right analog without an add on, no online, slightly higher than ps2 graphics and the same game as the Wii version including all the overly wordy tutorials!

WHOLE NEW BALL GAME RIGHT THERE.

fuuuuuuck me.

edit: oh - right - i see what you are doing there. You are making some -assumptions- about what the -western- 3DS version of 3G is.  :-*

Dude you cherrypicked like those two guys in that other thread to argue that point with. Most of us MH newbies don't care about that. We just want to play the damn game. They could release the next one simultaneously for 3DS, Vita, Facebook, and Gree for all I care about "splitting the userbase" (there are ways of making them interoperate anyways, but that's aside the point), I don't care as long as they get localized.

I added et tu, Andrex as to confirm that this is your one and only MH.

Anyways,  this is more about agreeing with Ducky. I'll go one further - there's a slew of nintendo fans 'elsewhere' j1zzing over monster hunter who haven't played -any- of the series yet. There's going to be some serious #sadface for some of them. I love the series, but it's certainly not for everyone.

Brings me on to another gripe before MH4 has even hit. You know what the second worst thing about MH3G is ? TOO MUCH TEXT. I don't need a story in Monster Hunter. And i certainly don't need NPCs blathering on and fecking on (tutorials can also take a bath too).

Now one of the top bullet points for MH4 is something like "Twice the amount of talky talky text bollox from NPC! Most wordy MH game yet"

Someone, somewhere, should be taken out to wasteland and ended.

Yea just give me my fucking mission info then fuck off.

even worse is that they heavily front load it in 3G as well - so it makes a tedious start even worse. I assumed they'd cull it down from the Wii version but ... ugh.

If Portable series -is- dead and MH4/MH3G represent what MH is going forward then they need to understand that it needs to be as light on the chat/text as they can possibly get.

Well thats disapointing to hear since this was a game i didn't really care about a story got fucked up by a tigrex and now lives at the village? ok, defend this fort from a huge ass creature? ok, etc. I didn't even read the stories for why a mission exists (until i was bored on day)  :lol

Hope the new text wont take up too much time.

i tend to find nintendo fans, especially the ones from the old days, to be the last group of fantards to complain about difficulty.  Which makes sense, if you think about it.

Nintendo fans of past aren't as vocal as nintendo fans of present.

You know why you aren't going to get MH3G, Andrex? Because retailers probably don't want a Monster Hunter game from Capcom in 2012. All the previous games bombed and the one that actually sold well did so because Nintendo shoved it into the retail space, where retailers struggled to get rid of them all. If they're going to push anymore Monster Hunters into the retail channel its going to be MH4, not 3G.

Huh, those PSP sales are higher than I was aware. I guess I assumed that was the problem, especially with all the Capcom titles being overstocked lately (ex. Raccoon City).

Yeah, if you grew up with NES and Master Sys games and complain about difficult these days, you've pretty much done a 180 in gaming evolution.

Also that being said, MonHun isnt difficult, it just has an unforgiving learning curve. Once you've farmed the beginning xdrome missions enough and got the hang of it you're set. Only the non dragon/wyvern bosses takes a bit of learning thereafter, as they have different attack patterns than the basic wyvern bosses.

honestly, if tri was your first one because it happened to be on a nintendo platform and you're a nintard, but you played it and loved it and got totally and hopelessly hooked, and you're sitting there hoping the latest one gets an english release, i don't really see what's wrong with that.
I have no problems with these people. I want more people to like MonHun so the bitching at Capcom can reach critical mass.

I do take issue with people that :
a)Do not play MonHun and only comment on threads cause it is a Nintendo "exclusive"
b)Bitch at PSP players that wants Capcom to work on a Portable 3rd localization.

My interest in the franchise is due to its' sales, yes. But I've never really hid that. I have no false interest in this series. I've tried them, and while they're fun with friends the truth is gathering a bunch of friends with PSPs or 3DSs into the same room isn't all that likely so you're often left alone. This is a problem you see, because I suck.  :lol

I remember everyone saying this about Tri but it didn't come to pass outside a few bad apples as far as I'm aware. And that was the introductory MonHun that really stuck it to Sony! If there would have been any namby pamby system warriors trumpeting a MH up, it would have been for Tri.

I still don't understand how Tri could outsell Dragon's Dogma and a frickton of other games and yet its sequels still won't be deemed worthy for release. For all intents and purpose, Tri was basically the first real series try in NA and it did well for itself. When you get numbers like that you don't abandon them, you double down and grow the series.

And as mentioned, Capcom could release it on the eShop if they cared at all what retailers thought, which I'm unconvinced they do.

A potential translation would work on PSP, PS3 and Vita there should be enough sales to cover monetary cost. I'm not sure what localization costs would be, but the opportunity cost of putting two guys on it doesn't seem large enough to not do it.

I actually feel it's pretty reasonable to bitch at PSP players that want Capcom to work on a Portable 3rd localization, unless it's for... well, I was going to say Vita, but let's instead create an imaginary Vita that isn't a giant pile of sales fail.  Or PS3, if Sony hadn't been asses.  There's no point in translating the PSP version at this point.  Digital sales would not be sufficient to make up the costs of loc.  Retail sales would be non-existent.  The sales would probably be so poor that Capcom would be able to point at them and never localize a MH game ever again.

The first group is derp as hell, though, I'll give you that.

whilst i agree with everything said here - there's a huge massive hole in this though. massive.

p.s. my issue is entirely with group 1. The idea that it's "a few posters" is bullshit.

Actually, thinking about it I can see why. Portable 3rd HD's online gameplay was far from adequate from what I've heard, which makes sense since it was free and Capcom usually charges for online modes in Monster Hunter in Japan. By putting in a proper online mode they'd be competing with the services people pay for, and since paying to play a single game online in the west is ludicrous it could result in reverse importation. Of course as Atlus has revealed that's no longer a problem in 2012 for PS3 releases.

There's a slight hole, but if you have your feet planted in reality and have even an inkling of the NA retail situation, it's clear that even the 3DS is considerably more viable for retail releases in 2012/2013 than the PSP.

3DS would definitely be a much better handheld choice at this point in time for a Monster Hunter game in NA

or almost any handheld game for that matter, let alone MH. The 3DS has won already, Sony got this badly wrong and with a good machine as well.

If Capcom really cared about MH in the West,MH games would be on 360/PC/PS3.Not on some anomaly called Wii/handheld.

Monster Hunter will never sell as well as it does in Japan in the west so there's no point in sabotaging Japanese sales by doing stupid things like abandoning handhelds. However, if Capcom really cared they would have started a PS3/360/Wii U/PC MH game to have some appeal in the west as well as having content that can be easily mined into Vita/iOS titles. Instead they're continuing the series' visual stagnation. It's insane that a series this popular can have no real noticeable bump in visuals in nearly 10 years.

Are the PSP, Wii and 3DS Monster Hunter games still using the original PS2 assets? Does the 360 version of Monster Hunter Frontier Online have a modern online multiplayer features?

I was talking about West, handhelds are Japan MH bread and butter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't MH Japan portable popularity based on playing with other people over wifi.Something like that will never fly in the West, nobody here plays with handhelds in the public.

Going online is the only logical choice(for the West),but of course that would require significant investment into online infrastructure/graphics.

I guess 3DS is the cheapest choice.

I'm fairly certain they were all updated for Tri and Tri G. The PSP footage I've seen of Tri monsters makes them look noticeably different (some are even different colors, in addition to being lower res and lower poly.)

They all might use the same animations though (MH series' true bread and butter), dunno.
