I am also playing Ysoath and just got out of the ice mountains where I fought a dragon, it was a tough fight but I came out on top and Chester is a naughty boy. Where are you at in the game MCD?

I'm either gonna replay Origins as the magician dude or just play this. I haven't decided yet.

Play Oath first, Origins was developed after it and improves on its mechanics. And when you play Origins, play as the girl Yunica first; she's modeled after Adol and her storyline is more interesting. The magician has long range/trap based style, easier IMO and less fun. Pretty emo too.

First boss of Oath was notoriously known for being hard. But the reality is when you face a boss in Ys generally (especially the 3D ones) and you notice you're not inflicting enough damage and taking too much damage, first thing you check is if you missed a piece of equipment or upgrade, as it's more equipment-dependent than level-dependent. If that doesn't work level up once or twice, but not too much. Most encounters are balanced around a certain level and it's usually the one you're expected to be at that point in the game, or very close to it.

Stat scaling is just weird in these games, one minute you'll be making no damage and taking too much, you find a way to add +5 strength and defense then *suddenly* the boss starts inflicting 1-3 damage only, while you're able to take chunks from his life bar.

Still a pretty badass series all things considered. Crept into my top 5!

Damn, I didn't know this. I already beat Origins as Yunica. I guess I'll play Oath next.

Origins has tighter combat, boss battles. The dungeons, while linear, has some nice surprises. I really enjoyed it on my first playthrough, but now I'm on my third, I've seen everything I'm just ready to move on.

Oath however was a much more memorable experience, and is a classic ARPG thanks to its setting and characters. It's wonderful.

Yeah, I was getting pwned by the first boss in Oath and discovered that I had missed the gem that lets you charge your fire attack to do more damage.  HERP A DERP.

I missed like two shield upgrades in Oath and was stuck in some fire dungeon I couldn't backtrack from ... it was not enjoyable.

Cool, I should like it more than Origins then.

I've played through Oath 3 times (twice on PC, once on PSP) and am about to start my 3rd playthrough of Origins... I think I might like Origins a bit better tbh but both are some of my top PC games ever.
