Did anyone actually get Heroes of Ruin? I grabbed it and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D from Gamefly.

Seems like a decent enough diablo time waster, and it has online.

Is it really worth $20 though?
The game looks like a $10 purchase at best. I mean the thing I was able to buy with $20 last week.

I got Samurai Warriors Chronicles for 3ds.

Oh. My. God.

This may be better than Dynasty Warriors 7. :bow I have never played a Samurai Warriors game but I fucking love this.

I know that Chronicles is an exception to the rule in that you create a warrior from the start, and use character switching ala Warriors Orochi, so I know it's probably not near nor close to the Samurai Warriors norm. Still, it is the bee's knees.

Maps are large, and character switching has toned down the necessary traveling through stages. What's more, the multiple characters gives the game a very strategic like edge. These maps can get really tense, and this is just on Part 1 of the story. Very Orochi-like. Getting a constant stream of goals in mid-mission and the maps constantly changing focus keeps me on my toes, and I have a bit of trouble beating a few quests due to being under leveled or not using the right tactic to get ahead.

Then there's combo system. It takes far more skill to do high damage and high number combos in this game compared to say, Dynasty Warriors 7 and I love it for that. Each character having their own unique moveset really does wonders for me, and the inclusion of WO3's new Wonder-type combo strings (again, my first SW so I'm not sure when this feature was introduced) make strings require more skill and timing.

The story isn't as well told, and the skill system is lacking compared to especially Orochi 3, but damn, the rest of it top of the line.

Is the rest of the Samurai Warriors series like this? Because I like it even more than Dynasty.

Except for the really shitty Samurai Warriors Katana, the SW series is pretty ace.  Each installment has dramatic improvements over its predecessor.  Samurai Warrior 3 was the best Musou game until DW7 and WO3 came out.

Warriors Orochi has always felt like "Samurai Warriors Featuring Dynasty Warriors" to me...like an extension of that series rather than a spin-off game.

It really sucks that Koei is not releasing Samurai Warriors Chronicles 2 and Dynasty Warriors Vs. for 3DS outside of Japan.   :(

Art Academy 3DS is a superb game for the 3DS. I highly recommend it.

The instructions are very clear and concise. Lack of talent and practice on my part are the only excuses behind the unsuccessful duplication of the instructor's work. Which is why the game stresses to players that consistent practice is mandatory with each course.

What has really sold me on the game is how effective it is in helping gamers apply concepts and techniques from the game to real life. While at work, I was doodling on a sheet of paper, and I started to draw the tree from one of the game's lessons, keeping mindful of the instructor's advice and directions. I can tell you that I was very impressed with my doodling -- it was the best tree I've personally drawn on any sheet of paper ever.

Prior to picking this game up, I was conflicted in my decision to purchase either this or Colors 3D. Both art programs but each serve a different purpose, and it was recommended to buy both since they complement one another (Art Academy being the lesson, Colors 3D being the actual application of those lessons). Art Academy 3DS is, by far, the more important application of the two. The lessons, the stories, the techniques, the real life applications -- all of it comes with the package. And IMO, if one was forced to choose between one or the other, I'd tell that person to go with AA.

Anyway, it's the best 3DS title I own.

Hey dudes,

Does your 3DSeXL pull apart easily around the volume area? I can pull back the red shell with ease, but everywhere else is snug and doesnt pull back. I guess it doesnt bother me (maybe a clip broke or something?) but I am curious if your guys does it too.

Here I took a pic...

what's under the shell

Quoting these old posts to corroborate the claims of weak ass build. It came to my attention recently how loose the plates become, and how I can easily pull some of the corners out. They're still clipped, so I'm not too worried, but it makes me really question what Nintendo was thinking. I almost miss the sturdier sandwich design of the fat.

I also wonder if the plates were meant to be swappable... That's how easy it feels to pull them.

Two or three games will get you enough coins to get one of those.  If you don't have coins, they're all available for regular purchase on the eShop.  $3 for Metroid, $6 for Twinbee, $10 for 1080 and Mario Party.

First party Nintendo software is expensive as fuck!

Bought my kids the 3DSXL. Very nice system. Improves on the DS in almost every way. My only minor gripe is the slick outer shell, it's kind of slippery. Also, their old Nerf case won't fit on it.

One of their favorite things from the DS was flipnotes. Any idea if they are going to release that again? Hell, I would buy it for 10 bucks considering the amount of time my kids played with it.

I thought they confirmed or at least hinted the existence of Flipnote 3D shortly before Swapnote was released.

Swapnote was amusing for a short while but the 3DS/app borked method of pushing messages turned me off: Spotpass was continuously blinking with nothing but "you received swapnotes" for a message, and when you open it it will download old messages 20 notes at a time, then you have to wait a few minutes or exit through home/quitting to initiate the next batch. So imagine how many time I had to do that after 2-3 month break... A lot.

This type of network-related shortsightedness really needs to be cleaned up somehow and fast, otherwise I'll continue ignoring online enabled features.

I get the feeling that if VLR wasn't on both the 3DS and Vita, it would've been a download only game on the Vita.  A lot of Japanese games are PSN only these days.

I'm all for the DD future and turning a blind eye to terms of use and fine prints, but I just can't get myself to accept the 3DS' offering. It inconveniences the user in every way (price, transferability, security, no extra activations, etc), but in return only offers the bare minimum: games on a stick.

Transferring my data from the fat to the XL was a huge pain the ass, required a network, took a long time, and it was all for a few saves, a couple of "we're sorry" roms, and two small downloadable games.

They have to do better than this, because I don't feel like rewarding their ineptitude.

Considering it's an XL that would be quite the feat.

The good part is it has to get better.

Nintendo Network stuff is coming to 3DS eventually, when they eventually start not being distinguished mentally-challenged about game locking on Wii U that should be easily done on 3DS too.

I mean, history's shown it has gotten better. Even the option to download full games is a 180 turnaround from "40 MB is all you need for a download game!" Nintendo from a few years ago. It has to get better or Nintendo will go out of business, and I don't believe they're quite so self-destructive. Nintendo's shown they understand this as well, but they still drag their heels about some things.

My 32GB is already filled up with Vita games (bought, PS+ freebies, and YOPO cross platform games) not to mention PS1 games, PSP games, PS Minis I've collected over the years. You can't fault me for conveniently re-downloading games I've owned over various systems for free, can you?

My favorite part about buying the XL after I traded in the fat, and after failing to find a network to initiate the transfer (a process my local GS wasn't debriefed on how it works), was the employee suggesting that I buy old fat back, go home, perform the transfer, come back within the next 24h,  give the fat back, and refund my money.

So basically psp and ps1 stuff that you could have just bought on the psp...  But seriously though, i am keeping my psp still because there is no need ot get a vita atm.  Maybe when a good vita rpg gets released i will bite.

... Why are we talking vita in a 3ds thread anyway.

After further discussion they agreed to let me take both systems, without paying for the second, to the neighboring Indian restaurant to leech from their wifi (as long as I leave some ID). I had to order food to get the password, and perform the transfer with everyone watching. It was really fun.

There you go, the convenience of going digital on Nintendo platforms, in 2012 no less.
