I Have Made The Ultimate Decision
« on: January 08, 2007, 04:07:39 PM »
Going into Season 1 of the US Office it was obvious the British one was superior, but in Season 2 the US one took off and I fell in love with it. I started to see them as equals. Now with the equally fantastic season 3 and re-watching all of Season 2 on DVD I have began to question...is the American Office better than the British one?

It's been a long time since I first watched the British one so this weekend I decided to rewatch it. And oh my God how could I even CONSIDER the American one as better(while I consider it the greatest TV show on currently, sorry BSG you are #2)? I forgot just how much more brilliant and just REAL and subtle the british office is. I am sorry. :(

My final and official decision for all of time:
It is impossible for the American Office to ever outclass the British one, no matter how many seasons it lasts and no matter how long its quality keeps up. The British Office is one of, if not the best sitcom of all time.

The problem with the American Office, is that it is SO over the top, that if you don't "buy into" it right away, it turns into an annoying show.

I just don't buy into the characters ... so all the idiosynchrasies(sp) are grating instead of funny.

I also enjoy the US Office more. But I have only seen the first season of the UK Office. I've never gotten around to watching the second.

I <3 Pam.

I really need to catch up with the American version.  I wrote it off too but every episode I see is fantastic, but I've missed a bunch as well.  Gotta put it on my cue.

Why make a thread like this? We all know the US version is better for some time now. The US Office just has more kick, and the UK version feels daft in comparison. Probably because I'm not British and don't understand all the jokes.

wtf? Why are people assuming I called the US one better? I don't think many people feel that way. more funny =/= better The US office is a FANTASTIC sitcom and insanely funny. UK Office is one of the greatest television shows in the history of the medium. It's like comparing your favorite comedy movie to like  Casablanca/Citizen Kane.

I think people feel the UK version is better because they're elitists and just want to look cool, despite the fact they aren't British and don't get all the jokes.

The US version has more heart, but the UK version had more laughs.

The US version seems to be more slapstick, balls-to-the-wall kind of comedy, whereas the UK version seems to rely more on subtlety and irony. UK >> US, it would seem.

I came in here to say that only taste deprived idiots would prefer the US to the UK, but it looks like Himuro took care of that for me already!

The US version seems to be more slapstick, balls-to-the-wall kind of comedy, whereas the UK version seems to rely more on subtlety and irony. UK >> US, it would seem.

But the characters in the US version are more fleshed out and I actually care about them. On the UK version I'm all,"Who is that one fat guy again?". Not so much when it comes to the US version, where I like the participation between all parties.

In the UK version it's too concentrated on the main 5.

And the character development and relationships between these characters in the US version makes it even better. The UK version feels dry in comparison, although it's subtleties are a great factor in making it awesome, the US version is the complete package.
