Goals in The Sims are dependent on certain factors and depend on the player. In Sim City, I like to get to a functioning city with lots of revenue, then I take out the cheats and destroy it and start over. With The Sims, I like creating large families and keeping them happy, which can be a struggle depending on certain factors. I also like fucking around, and doing stupid stuff with my sims. But there a lot of challenges in regards to The Sims, like the aforementioned poverty challenge, legacy challenges (multiple generations of one family surviving), for some they enjoy building houses from scratch using all materials available in-game and using actual house building techniques to do it.
Like a lot of games of this type, challenges and goals really depend on the player. Some people like creating female characters, get them married and kill their husbands, every single one. That is hilarious and I don't see any reason to be antagonistic towards people who have the creativity and imagination to play a game like that.
Of course, there are lots of people who like gay shit with the Sims, but then I'm sure there are people who have turned Skyrim into their very own date rpg.
