Is it easy to replace a laptops LCD screen?
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:15:41 PM »

this is what mine is doing and some local computer shop wants to charge me over 300 (parts and labor)

I figure I can buy the part online and just fix it myself for a lot cheaper

I've done it, it wasn't especially hard but I didn't quite get the bezel back together perfectly ... :-\

depends on the laptop. make/model? if the bezels come apart, just take it slow and careful. also, make sure you have the right fit of screen -- double-check with the cats on the notebookreview.com forums, since it's more than just the diagonal size that defines a proper fit (and some 13" laptops take 14" screens, etc). once you've got the right fit of screen and removed the bezels (if they can be removed without a special tool, or at all), it's pretty easy to disconnect and reconnect the old screen, since they all largely use the same adapter. make sure you retain any tape or fixtures that were used to hold the cabling in place and reapply it. that's all!

ugh, if you're rocking a samsung, they typically make screen replacements tough. you need a specific type of matte screen in many cases, and the bezels are sealed -- or at least they were on the chronos series 7 i upgraded. i'd let the shop do that once since they have the separator and sealant on hand.

I ordered the screen that I think is right, but most of the websites that deal with lcd screen replacements don't seem extremely legit. I have an older back up laptop to hold me over, but I can't see myself paying over 250 for laptop repair when I can just buy a new laptop for just a bit more.
