Happy Anniversary.  Thirteen years ago, probably the best console launch evar happened.  Obviously, it's a shame how the DC turned out but with a turd like Shenmue, an entire system can get wrecked.   :'(

I had a Mega Drive, Game Gear and Saturn.

But never bought a Dreamcast cause the writing was on the wall.

Blame me.

Even I bought a DC at launch!  It was too good.

Of course, like any reasonable person I burned every Sega related thing I owned when the Shenmue debacle happened.

When I saw Shenmue get a 6.8 from Gamespot, I knew the Sega dream was over. I'm just glad Yuji Naka wasn't alive to see how far they fell.

Yep, got a Dreamcast, a VMU, Sonic Adventure, and Blue Stinger (holy shit, bad idea) for launch.

A fine system that crapped out on me in the middle of 2002.

Try playing Shenmue.

Ryo, I want to teach you this move. As you push forward, kick and punch with a swift strike. Now, you try.

There, you seem to have a handle of it. Do you want to keep practicing?

I learned pretty fast to take the VMU out while playing unless I wanted to save.

It beeped all of the time when finding Cupils in Skies of Arcadia.

This thread reminded me of how U2K was going to relaunch the Dreamcast in 9/9/09 with hundreds of games, including a four disc GTA clone.  I want to find the GAF thread badly but can't find it.  Then I ran a search to see if I could get to it from Google and came across these:

The system wasn't bad at all plus it had some great fighting games that ran at arcade quality.

If all of its best games weren't ported to other systems, Dreamcast would still be worth owning today. In fact, it still is. I have it hooked up to my hdtv right now.

I still have a NIB Sega Dreamcast for emergencies 8)

I also paid out the ass for the broadband adapter. I also got an SD card adapter that plugs into the serial port, and I have no idea what it's useful for.

Why do I keep buying things?

Anyway, it's the last console I still feel nostalgic about.

I was real late to the DC party. Bought a system during 2006 with a trillion pirated games.

I then played Skies of Arcadia, Headhunter, Jet Set Radio, Grandia 2 and SHENMUE. om nom nom nom

Saturn and Dreamcast were a staple if you were a die-hard fighting game fan prior to Sega shutting down console development.  IIRC, it was only later that Sony managed to catch up to any degree—with Virtua Fighter 4, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and Street Fighter Anthology having superior versions of SF3:3S and SFA3, respectively, and later, ports of the best of the King of Fighters series.

After a while, the atrocious PS2 port of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 left the only reason to have a Dreamcast around.

The fighting games are what push DC over Saturn imo and all of its best fighters (no project justice though :() have been ported to other systems by now. Saturn, on the other hand, its best fighters have been topped ages and ages ago, making it feel archaic as a fighting game machine. Of course, the main exception for Saturn is VF2 but I'd take VF4 over it any day.

I feel ya, Oscar. Saturn still has some really uncontested classics. Games like Panzer Dragoon Zwei have yet to be topped. Maybe it's my nostalgia for Genny, but I've lots of nostalgia for Saturn too. Most of the games I played on Saturn were fighting games so maybe that's why I have this opinion.

On the other hand, Genesis covers all bases that Dreamcast and Saturn lacked. Just was the most balanced system to me, and it was the glory days of Sega.

I liked the Saturn quite a bit because its 2D library was amazing.  I really liked CPS2/mid-late 90s era Capcom and a lot of their games were there on the Saturn in their arcade perfect (or near arcade perfect) glory.

Genesis is definitely my favorite Sega system (the Phantasy Star games, Gunstar Heroes, Ranger-X, Landstalker, non-shitty Sonic games, Contra Hard Corps, Rocket Knight, Thunder Force games, Shining Force, etc) and up there with SNES and PS1 as my favorite game system of all time, then it's up in the air between DC and Saturn. Maybe I'd give the edge to Saturn since it had more RPGs (although Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite games of all time), but DC was such a revelation for me.

Not really. Many of them were importers and that's where the majority of Saturn's lineup was. I can understand liking Saturn the most, because it has a specific niche of titles, mostly arcade titles and rpgs. I just don't agree with it.
