My mom is a pioneer of creating "make work," which is defined by taking a simple task and turning it into a Herculean job. When I was young she'd have us change and re-change mulch randomly - ie put down tarp, dirt, and mulch....then next week re-do it all the next week because "the mulch doesn't seem to match the season teehee."
She'd have us dig ditches randomly for plants, then a day later have us re-fill the ditches and say "actually I'll put the plants in the back yard instead." Then after we dug those she'd be like "actually re-fill those, let's put the plants on the side of the house." It was like the WPA

In terms of other quirks....hmmm
-my uncle is one of the most socially distinguished mentally-challenged people I know. Not in terms of social anxiety, but in terms of how he goes on the most INSANE rants out of the blue. It's hard talking to him because even the slightest provocation will result in him giving you a long, off-topic talk about Roman history, conspiracy theories, the bible, etc etc. He then begins aggressively arguing which gets some people very upset. I'm used to it now
Everytime he goes on one of these bursts his wife gets very, very visually embarrassed; it's kind of sad to watch. Example: some of my family were discussing education reform at a dinner awhile ago, and he randomly started talking about Julius Caesar and why he was the greatest politician, Obama was a joke compared to him, etc. Somehow he then morphed into a discussion of Pastor Eddie Long and "touching little boys in the butt" at which his wife excused herself from the table. Eventually everyone just kind of ignored him and went back to discussing the original topic, so he wound up carrying on his tangent with me. That's pretty much how these things always go at every family function. My dad, mom, other uncles, etc will ignore him and he'll start ranting to me.
A couple months ago his wife kicked him out the house for "talking crazy" among other things, and he stayed with my parents for a few days. He got very religious over the last 5-6 years but recently realized organized religion is nonsense, so I'm guessing that's what he was kicked out; they're back together now, but dunno for how long.
