The Future Of Gaming

According to a recent patent application filing, Microsoft envisions a totally immersive experience: Specifically, the patent states that "An immersive display environment is provided to a human user by projecting a peripheral image onto environmental surfaces around the user. The peripheral images serve as an extension to a primary image displayed on a primary display."

Quote
n the example shown in patent FIG. 1, we see that the user is focused on the gameplay on his TV but may be aware of an approaching video game enemy from the user's perception of the peripheral image displayed on his back wall. In some embodiments, the peripheral image is configured so that, to a user, the peripheral image appears to surround the user when projected by the environmental display. Thus, in the context of the gaming scenario shown in FIG. 1, the user may turn around and observe an enemy sneaking up from behind.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the environmental display is a wide-angle RGB projection display device configured to project a peripheral image in a 360-degree field around the environmental display.

It's not going to work well in any living room. We're still far away from having motion sensing controls being anywhere near accurate. It will be just be more on-rail shooters and self-driving racing games.

I'd love to see the living rooms of the people designing this. Real people have weird shaped rooms and giant tables in front of their couches. No one has 40 feet of space to use something like this in.

What would be the purpose of a Steambox? Why not get a non-branded PC for less instead?

i can't see how this would work in any non-foreveralone living room.

"Those trees being projected across my bookcase are really immersive!"

For this to be worth even 10% of a fuck, you will need an empty room without windows and everything from the ceiling to the floor painted flat white

Maybe the only thing they know about people's living rooms is watching television where everyone lives in those large converted warehouses with incredible amounts of space despite their meager incomes.

I love how modern-day commercials assume that every single 20-30 year old is a hipster living in an urban flat with a ton of space, hardwood floors, white walls and minimalistic Ikea furniture.

Valve making a console just when consoles are on its way out.

They've already saved PC gaming, console gaming shouldn't be a problem. Then one day maybe one day they'll do the impossible and save cellphone gaming.

I was thinking New Girl since it's a bit more modern but Friends is the standard.
