It's like when girls use bags from trendy stores as their tote-bags as a status symbol. Except with Subway and napkins.

I only do 20 percent if the bill is real low or they gave extra special service. Otherwise it's 15 percent.

If you don't keep my drinks filled or the bill takes 20 minutes to get to the table (my biggest pet peeve), then you get 5-10 percent.

I don't understand the pocket Subway napkin.  Why don't you just buy your own napkins?  Those are for customers only.

Your privileged mentality has shielded you from the truth Robo. Subway has some of the most high quality napkins in the fast food industry. They don't fall apart when you use them, and they also include information you can read. If you had black friends you might know some of us may place them around the house, sort of like a cheap coffee book table alternative.

also my wife is a former waitress so she will kill me if i do not tip

You are missing the point. I'm not paying tips for receiving less, I'm paying tips to advance an entire race. Do you remember when Bruce Willis saved earth by sacrificing himself at the end of Armageddon? I do that shit every month when I ask for water instead of kool aid at a party.

I always tip at least 20%. Tipping is their main source of income. They make $2.90 an hour otherwise. Spread the wealth and improve the economy. You wanna be stingy, that's your prerogative. But karma is a biotch.

I used to tip 15% when I came to the US, sometimes a bit more if the service is the service is exceptionally good (or hot). But running the numbers in my head or on my calculator was a chore, so I started doing this...

i tip $1 for every $5 the meal cost.

I haven't gotten any really service yet to reconsider it, but if it calls for it I definitely would.

Lol try hospo in NZ. Nobody tips, and most people get $14 an hour. Yet often people here are really nice that work cafes (including myself for 3 years til I left that trade). Blows my mind. Could do with some black excellence here, think I'm going to start tipping on principle too though I would never tip bad service like that PD. Let that racist bitch stew

LOL, reading the OP made me think about what my mom and dad have done in said situations. They will literally chew out a shitty waiter/waitress for shitty service....so a tip is totally out of the question.  :lol My mom and dad won't shy away from making a scene. But don't misunderstand: they're not "ghetto". Far from it actually. My dad is in politics so there's no loss of composure or anything (or neck rolling from my mom, :lol)

I've never heard of the actual phrase "black man's burden" before, but I have practices its principles a few times in my life....but usually, that's just me trying to be a good person, not an attempt to represent black people (usually :)).

But when it comes to shitty service: me? Shitty service deserves a shitty tip (if one at all). If the waitress is delusional enough to think that her crappy tip is because of a stereotype instead of her shitty service then fuck her. I'll be damned if I waste my time trying to change the mind of some idiot who 1) can't do their job right, and 2) thinks they should be rewarded it.

Great service? Then the "black man's burden" possibly comes into play. "I provided excellent service and they still didn't tip me! Those damn negroes!"

Beezy my brother I love you but I can only carry your responsibilities for so long before I die. Sooner or later you'll be held responsible for your actions, and I'm just trying to get you back on track with black excellence. If I saw you walking down the street right now I wouldn't give you a black man nod, because you haven't earned it. That nod is in recognition of black excellence, of being able to look a man in his soul and say " I see you brother. Oh, you ate your vegetables today? That's black excellence. Oh, is that a Subway napkin in your back pocket? That's black excellence."

:lol best pd post ever :lol

it's also important for the black man to differentiate himself from old white libertarian racists who never tip, e.g. my old man

"son, you see that congoid over there? the service here is shit, and he still left ten dollars on the table. now you see what i'm talking about?"

"yeah, that he's a socially conscious and responsible adult who doesn't presume he understands other people's circumstances, and has developed a positive and healthy protocol for service?"

"no, i mean he's dumb enough to give lazy people his money -- just like a democrat. son..."

"don't son me, pops, i made more last year than you did in the last ten."

"...okay."

I know what I did to preserve and pass on black excellence today. What did you do today, Himu/Beezy/Green Man?
:lol

and here i was just gonna post asking if Green Man was really black  :lol

I understand the hardships that many black people go through. Moreso than most white people

how so? i love a good story

So, I was saying that largely in jest but I will say the following. Granted, it might sound offensive but I have good intentions when I say it. I'm just an idiot and bad at explaining things.

I've lived a life that's stereotypically associated with that of low-income black families, granted with bouts of prosperity that have allowed to for nice things and easy living at times. I've also spent my entire life in a majority black area and 90% of the people I grew up with in my life have been black. My friends were black, my mother had mostly black friends so as a kid those were the type of people I was around and learned a lot of life lessons from. I also have a large section of black family members.

By and large I feel more comfortable around black people than I do white people. Which is kind of a weird thing to say that I'm sure doesn't sound right here but it sounds better in my head.

Nah it was a good explanation to be honest.

my tipping has gradually crept up to 40%-ish. it's sick, I am betraying my fellow consumers' interests.
