EDIT: Dammit my power went out and I live all the way in Cleveland, OH where we're just getting the outter bands of wind and rain from Sandy. I guess that's what I get for saying that the storm was being blown out of proportion.

I'm not expert, but it's possible overhauling the some of the oldest infrastructure in some of the most densely developed and populated areas wouldn't be simple or cheap, and a hard sell when you're talking about places that get seriously hit by tropical storms once every few decades.

Because the northeast only gets hit by a hurricane like once in every 50 years. It's not like homes in the Caribbean are designed to withstand a snow storm.

we are fine here in our slice of brooklyn

we lost internet but it's back this morning

friends in other parts of brooklyn seem fine as well

our production servers lost power but the building has 9600 gallons of diesel fuel to power the back up generators. have no idea how long that will last but this shit cray.
