The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the quasi-public group that granted the $75 million taxpayer-guaranteed loan to 38 Studios, has filed a lawsuit against the architects of the 2010 deal. WPRI reports the defendants include 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling and CEO Jennifer MacLean, former EDC executive director Keith Stokes, Wells Fargo Securities, Barclays Capital and many, many more.

The recent public auction at 38 Studios' former Providence HQ grossed approximately $650,000. The auction at 38 Studios' Big Huge Games division in Maryland brought in $180,000. It's estimated 38 Studios owed $150.7 million when it declared bankruptcy, so far the state of Rhode Island has recovered about $830,000.

My brother recently moved to RI and he says this shit is like really big news up there... lol. He's never played the game, which I'm surprised about since he loves buying dirt cheap american games.

I'd be pissed and want to sue too if the only result from a $75 million loan is something as boring and generic as Kingdoms of Amalur.

For real, I only paid $60 for Kingdoms of Amalur and I feel ripped off.

The RICO claim is basically alleging many of these parties were running a scam to get money from this system (larceny).

Is it really larceny though if the tax payer dollars you've taken are rightfully your own, by virtue of boot straps?

A friend on Facebook posted a rather lengthy rant about this, including "The State of Rhode Island has a frivolous lawsuit against the people behind 38 Studios, including Curt Schilling. If I were in Schilling's position, I would counter-sue for libel and defemation of character."

Yea I really am baffled why he is defending this trainwreck so much, especially when no one on his friend's list gives a shit.

Maybe he shares Curt's politics or enjoyed the game.

If he shared Curt's politics, you'd think he'd be mad at the guy.  That's the tastiest part of this whole thing-- teapartier fumbles a gigantic tax payer backed loan :lol   so really, your friend should've been mad a long time ago, like when he got the loan.

Yea, he's definitely conservative which makes his rant all the more funny. He's basically putting forth that Rhode Island pulled the rug out from under the company JUST as they were making headway  :lol

And the irony when he wrote "Don't do business in Rhode Island because the state government is incredibly inept."
