I think it's alright. Especially when you compare it to the XBox Live Marketplace and the Nintendo eShop. My biggest gripe with it is that you can't download the latest patched version of games directly from the store. Instead you have to download the original release and then patch it, often multiple times.

Steam is far from perfect as a platform. Its biggest advantage is the low prices.

ok, found a pretty stupid problem today.  Under PSP games, you can't filter it to only show disc-released full PSP games.  It either shows everything or PSP games that can only be played on PSP and not Vita or a mini.

I like how it takes like 10 steps to actually download something, half of them are just useless verifications.  Like, I'm pretty sure the first rule of designing an online storefront is to take people's money as fast as possible and don't give them many chances to change their mind and cancel.

The free game section of PS+ is also so poorly done, the majority of real estate is taken up by a huge banner and only a couple of games can be shown at once.

Oh, and hope you remember which PS1 games were imports, since you'll never find them again unless you plan on scrolling through countless rows!

Like, I can see what they were going for and it could have been well done, but really...don't they focus test this shit at least?

I like some of the changes; like how they can easily aggregate new lists/filters to the side bar, how the description page finally holds all the relevant info you need (demos, DLCs, etc), and how adding content to the cart and checking out is more intuitive.

But.this.shit.is.slow.yo! And it's even worsened by the sluggishness of transition animations. Can I haz more RAM plz?

The layout, while please from an aesthetic perspective, is counterproductive and mixes everything up resulting in a junk mail/department store free catalogue feel. Ads ads and more ads, bleh!

And it's really ironic when you think about it since this was the main critique of the Xbox UI (through all its forms) that Sony turds wouldn't let go.

on the plus side, it's supposed to get updated so that it's built in to XMB and isn't a separate applet.   I really think they need to fix how the grouping and sorting works.  Seems needlessly convoluted. 

all these next gen interfaces make me wish I had an option for just plain text menus on a fucking screen, along with an option to pull up some decent screenshots and information about the game.

I don't use the store enough to really care, but I like that the latest 360 update made things faster on the system, while this makes the store much slower.

When this gen is over I'd like for someone to go back and examine how the OS/stores have changed over the years.  For as much as the ads and paying for gold suck on the 360, Microsoft really improved the user experience over the years.  Installing retail games to the hard drive to help load times and noise was a big deal; took my 360 from a jet engine to a hair dryer.  That and downloading stuff in stand-by mode.

installs, background downloads, and cloud saves were the big improvements.  Otherwise, I feel like the 360 dash-market is a mess.   I'm one of those weirdos who is vehemently opposed to the ads.  There's something to say about XMB/Wii being free of that stuff...gaming should be a break from everything.  The 360 feels like a sponsored race car or a constant TV commercial.  except I don't save a dime from having ads everywhere...I'm "paying" (free xbl from exploits but whatever) for it.  More so, it's all doritos, mountain dew, and axe body spray which just reminds me that there are people out there that like that stuff.   Yes, you can just ignore it, but for an expensive electronic device, it'd be backwards for me to have to just ignore entire parts of it on account of the company's intrusive choices.

Playstation Plus really is the much better value (uh, got this free for years too lol) all around, unless you absolutely hate everything they've offered...but chances are in your favor that you're going to get more than your money's worth of games you like over the course of a year.   and you don't get punished for it.

ok, this is really bad.  The process to initiate a download is almost as long as the 3DS.  If you don't have that references, it's really bad.
