Launches today. I want to play but I'm a little intimidated by the game since I never played the first.

I already downloaded it, will def give it a go. Looks pretty cool and I always enjoy being able to ride around in a tank and blast infantry.

It's easier to get into than the first.  For the most part it feels like a gigantic never ending match of Battlefield.  You can either get a vehicle and drive/fly to where the action is; the map tells you where conflicts are, and the percent of faction control.  Or you can use the instant deploy (that has a cooldown) to drop you right into a fight.  From there it's a matter of destroy/capture/defend/etc.

The hardest thing to grasp is that you can't really win or lose.  It's like a never ending tug of war between the three factions.

I don't know how much has changed from the beta.  Game performance and some of the free-to-playisms were the issues I had there.  Stuff like needing to buy grenades and generally slow progression compared to Battlefield/CoD.

I just booted this up for the first time. Game has placeholders/string id's in the main menu. Budget Sony release.

Ok this could be some bug, since everthing in the menus is a placeholder/id string now :(

It really looks like Halofield. Kind of mindblowing that something like this is F2P.

I like the concept, though!

A lot of the battlefield community seems to have picked up the game and like what it puts out there.

I think the biggest flaw is simply that there is no true tutorial to teach you how to play the game. It just throws you in the deep end of the pool and expects you to start swimming. Some people find that approach refreshing and challenging but others find it bewildering and frustrating.

This was my experience - to the point that I couldn't find the options menu to peruse the keybindings for even a bit of a clue so uninstalled to clear up space.

I think the only other squad based shooter I own is Battlefield BC 2 - do people still play that? I've suddenly got an intense hankering and I've realized I haven't really actually played one for more than a couple days since BF 1942

I tried it again and still only had placeholders everywhere. Instant delete.

Is air-dropping in when spawning/re-spawning a common thing in these games now? I thought that was pretty dope

Not super common but some other games do it. Section 8 springs to mind. But yeah I really think they should put a true tutorial in the game. A lot of game devs don't really seem to understand that not everybody wants to learn an mp game by getting their teeth kicked in until they eventually pick up what is going on.
