Thread In Which We Learn PD Supports The Iraq War
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:32:44 PM »
I thought this might be fun to do each 3 months(4 in all) leading up to the primaries in Jan. of 08 just to see how evilbore's views change as the election comes up in this year. I will only include the front runners(I'll change them as the front runners change obviously) just to avoid the highest votes for anyone being like 2.

If you dont like any of them or don't know VOTE ANYWAY

I voted for John McCain since I don't like any of them. Why do I have a feeling I'll be forced to really vote for him come 2008 :-\

Obama isn't going anywhere, and as of right now I won't vote for him until he actually does something in congress. He's done one bill basically, a good one at that, but I want to see more. I want to hear more from him on national security and why I should trust him. Right now it's too damn early; lets see how he handles himself in the primary debates, assuming he runs. It'll be interesting how he reacts when Hillary starts bashing him.

Alas, if I HAD to actually choose between Obama and McCain on a ballet, I'd go with Obama. But since it's going to be McCain vs Hillary (ZING)... :-\

McCain>Bush

Better believe it.

Obama is cool and exciting and charasmatic...but those are also reasons that I'm starting to dislike him for. He's a pretty face, but where's the substance? If he runs he's going to have to show his substance while being hijacked by Hillary. If he passes that test THEN I will have even more respect for him.

Edwards is the same, although he's kinda gone out of style with Obama on the scene. And like Obama, he has little foreign policy experience. That worked for Clinton in 92 and Bush in 99/00, but it won't work within this decade. The lessons of 2008 (corruption, Iraq) still ring true, but the lessons of 911 are still more important in voters minds. If you can't convince people that you'll protect them, you have no chance. Hell in 2004 people weren't fans of Bush, but they trusted him and felt he would protect them. Oh how times have changed.

It's a lie, why should I? He talks and acts EXACTLY like Bush. He is one of the only Republicans left supporting him in the senate.

APF would get more votes than Kucinich in a democratic primary. Something is wrong when democratic voters find you as being too liberal.

Is this like when Bush said the war in Iraq was about WMDs, and then when they didn't find WMDs it was about spreading democracy?  THAT WASN'T PART OF OUR DEAL, BLACKHEART!

He pulled out feeling he had no chance, as did the moderate former governor and senator Evan Bayh.

Both got a lot of hype around GAF.

What kind of "southerner"?  The south has marginalized itself as the last remaning GOP enclave and it's time for Democrats to stop being little chicken-shits when it comes to the big game.  Guess what, NO MATTER who is nominated, they are sure to OFFEND at least one segment of this countrys demographics.  And right now, the southern Republican strongehold doens't deserve anyones notice or respect.  Let the fools in the GOP primary worry about running hard right.

When you go into the race ignoring huge parts of the country you're set for failure, as Dean has said. Whether the Democrats like it or not the South is a huge force, as are the Christian voters. They turned the 2004 elections, period. Considering Bush has failed many of them it'll be interesting to see what they do in 08. If the dems have the right candidate (IE not Hillary) they could make gains there easily.

Things changed a lot. The mid-west has gone from being moderate but somewhat democrat leaning to pure democratic base.

And the mountain states are growing into the new mid-west for democrats.

You can't say that based off mid term elections. Wait until 2008.

I'll bet a week ban that the dems will lose in 08, especially if Hillary/Edwards/Obma get the election.

I don't particularly like Edwards, but I think you are right.

1) Hillary.  A very polarizing figure.  That alone doesn't guarantee an election loss, but toss in the whole "the president has a vagina!" thing and you lost the idiot vote that comprises all of middle america and the south.
2) Obama.  Inexperienced, but more importantly, not white.  Sorry, Obama, maybe in a decade or so you can be a VP if the country isn't distinguished mentally-challenged.
3) Edwards.  Kinda milquetoast, does not dredge up an immediate response, which is good for the Democrats since the other two contenders would bring immediately negative responses for most of rednecked America.  I think he is still generally low key enough to be considered "moderate."  Except he has made some comments about stem cells that will be brought up by distinguished mentally-challenged fellow christian Republicans.  The biggest reason he won't be a success is because he's not the Dem's prime choice.  Or their second. Arguably not even their third.

Obama's inexperience problems are hard to get over I agree. Obama was in the senate roughly as much as Jack Kennedy(Kennedy served officially longer but he was extremely ill while senator and missed many months at a time).

Which people bring up A LOT. But people fail to realize Kennedy was also a war hero from WWII and his father was a world famous poltician and ambassador. Obama is out of nowhere and has no family connections or war hero type of past. Because Americans for some reason tend to overlook political experience as long as they "served" (Ike for example) and americans were already comfortable with the kennedy family and saw as good politicians.

I urge everyone to vote the Socialist ticket in the upcoming election.  Barring that, assemble an angry mob(don't forget the torches)and storm the nearest gov't building.  The mob must be angry.  This is key.

Kennedy was also white, just in case you forgot.

Obama has no chance, and the people begging him to run seem to know little about politics. Throwing his ethnicity out of the way, he's still a very green politician with no foreign policy experience and no big accomplishments in the Senate.

I've always felt progressives look at Obama as more of their pet project than anything. On one hand they're ignoring the issue of race, yet on the other electing Obama would be a huge accomplishment for them. Seems like the possibility of electing him makes them feel so good that they ignore the obstacle in the way.

The map pretty much shows, its New York and California in blue and the rest of the cuntry in red.

I'm laughing out loud here. You are such a goddamn idiot.

As for what's going down, who the hell knows? I can't tell you how many times I've said this, but look at Bill Clinton. Dude came out of nowhere. I think Hillary has intentions of running, but you may be surprised when you see she doesn't win the primary.

Barack Obama is like a modern JFK figure, but he IS black. Pathetic that we still can't have a black or female pres yet, but what can you do.

But if we're gonna play the guessing game based on what we have, I'd say John Edwards has the best chance. He's a from the south, he's got charisma. That said, he is forever associated with John Kerry because he would've been the Vice President. I'd imagine the GOP will just dig up a lot of Kerry trashing they've already crafted and tag it onto Edwards, e.g. "how can you vote for Edwards when he would have been working under JOHN KERRY, who..." blah blah blaahhh.

As for the Republicans, I don't know. The GOP is pretty damn stubborn. As much as McCain scares me, I'd really like to think he has zero chance. Democrats would have the time of their lives with ads pointing out McCain's own "flip flopping", it would be like sweet revenge. And Rudy is is just a RINO, so you can forget GOP voters supporting him.

Hillary is running just accept it. And well, Al Gore is southern and he lost.

But Al Gore sucked ass (at the time). He's been able to reinvent himself a bit recently, although he's still a hypocrit bastard in my eyes.

Al Gore is awesome, don't hate. And he DID win the popular vote.
