iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3
« on: November 30, 2012, 02:17:59 PM »
What say you Bore? I need something new, could hold out for the Galaxy 4 if it hits early. Don't want to get another Windows phone cause Zune makes my PC crash.

iPhone has the games, Galaxy has everything else.

If games are important iPhone isn't a bad choice. Play store (android store) has fuck all for games though you can emulate easily. That said I enjoy android 3.0 and up os a lot. The os has come a long way and I feel it is preferable to iOS 6.0. If you do get a phone a Google nexus 4 and not the Galaxy S3.

Is the iPhone 5 a good step up from 4 though? I can get one for 150 with a 2 year plan or a Galaxy S3 for 50 with a 2 year plan.

Games are a big bonus, Android has enough but iOS has them all.

Does iPhone 5 still have glass instead of Gorilla Glass?

I've never had an iPhone though I've had an iPod touch for a long time. Most have said iPhone 5 isn't a big upgrade over 4s. You'd have to ask someone who has had both though. My knowledge of iPhone is mostly through ios and the features that both iPhone and iPod touch both share.

There is no Zune now...

Drag or drop or optional generic sync app.

I quoted this to say "SOLD THE FUCK OUT" but then checked the website and saw that you can place orders again. One caveat though: "ships in 6-7 weeks." :piss2

I love my iPhone 5 to death for the app environment.  It's also quite a beast internally but both these phones you'll have no issue with performance.  The latest Nexus is hot shit but I just don't like the Play store's choices.

OS is better I suppose on Android but I just prefer the comfort I have with iOS.

Counting the days until 12/26 to get my S3 and off this old ass launch iphone 4. Even if the S4 drops in February, I cannot wait til then. I need out from this under this phone. Nothing against ios, but I'm looking forward to the flexibility of the S3.

I work at a company called Aloompa as project manager, not an actual programmer, I should have clarified.  We make pretty much every big music festival app in the country now (we got Coachella a few weeks ago, big deal for us.  We're in negotiations to get Warped Tour and Lollapalooza as we speak).  We just signed a few deals for international festivals as well with BPM in Mexico coming up.

I think this link should work:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/aloompa/id318536634

It's a great job.

After using this phone for a few days: major step up over W7.5

iTunes doesn't crash my W8 laptop like Zune (wtf?). Loads of apps. And somehow it's easier to use then Windows, even though I never used an Apple product expect the old old old ipod.

Got my Nexus 4 on Friday. Have spent most of the weekend playing with it and tweaking it the fuck out. So far, I like it a TON more than the iPhone 5. It really does feel like the Windows version of the Windows vs. Mac OS divide. More customizable, more control, more like my own device and not just something I'm leasing from Apple while waiting for the next version to come out. Widgets are great (like Live Tiles on steroids) and Spotify/Facebook  integration are perfect. I'm cleaning up my local MP3 library for when Google Play adds free matching to the US (live now in EU and Canada now, coming to the US). And since a lot of my phone use is maps, web browsing, and reading Kindle books while at the gym, the 4" screen is really a huge upgrade.

I installed Nova Launcher to get more control over icon layout, screen transitions, etc. Would definitely recommend that to any Android 4.x users.

Basically, despite all the doom-and-gloom from Apple fanbois, I'm not missing everything I thought I'd like, I love; everything I was worried I'd hate, isn't that big a deal.

My biggest issue right now is no way to tap the top of the screen in a web browser to jump back to the top. :( That, and my stupid iPhone owning friends who keep sending me non-iMessage SMSes and running up my bill.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I still love my iPad and would never get a Nexus 7. :shh

No. I'm on AT&T so the only text plan they offer is $30 for unlimited family texting, which is even MORE insane than $0.10 per text.

I don't understand why users still support Text plan charges. I mean, if you've got a Facebook account, message on the mobile client, or even the Messenger app, specifically designed for it.

The idea that we can pay for "unlimited data," but are still paying for delivery of text messages, the most limited and tiny amount of data possible, is inherently and simultaneously offensive and nonsensical.

I completely agree and it's outrageous. However, it's a necessary evil for my situation. I like having a consistent bill.

Whatapp is only good for other people with Whatapp. Plus, it's a paid app. There are so many other free ways.

I think I mentioned that is was combined amount of messaging.

Pretty sure Whattsapp is free, at least it is on Android. And wouldn't your first point apply to any messenger app (unless some app would work with any other messenger). But I mightt have misunderstood your question anyway.

I got that it was the combined amount of messages, but 9000 messages for wife and kid already mean 150 per person/day, and 100 if you included yourself.

My daughter is 12 with an iPhone 4S. All those 'lol' ''lmao' 'sup' and 'k' adds up. Texting starts just after they hit snooze. 150 texts over the course of a day isn't hard to attain. Not even half her friends have iPhones so I can't rely on iMessage to not have a text plan, much less a non unlimited plan.

Here is her chart:

Looks like my numbers were high. I apologize.

I just switched from a S3 to a HTC 8X.  So far I'm liking the switch.  It does take awhile to get adjusted to W8 interface but it's worth the trouble.  Everything is so much quicker and prettier.  Also, the 8X's headphones sound quality blows away the S3 and most mp3 players.  The only cons so far are the lack of games and the battery draining too quick.
