I haven't played most of the big games. I want to vote Deus Ex HR again, or Dark Souls because it's on PC now.

Very good gaming year for me.

There was a lot stuff I liked this year.

The very best would be

The Walking Dead, Borderlands 2, X-Com enemy unknown, Trials Evolution, Mass effect 3. Of those it would probably be between walking dead and borderlands 2 for goty for me. Probably a tie. I really loved both of them for different reasons. Far Cry 3 might enter the conversation though as I'm playing through that now.

There was also an unusually high number of titles that I enjoyed beneath that goty bar but are really good games. Sleepings Dogs, Halo 4, Mark of the Ninja, Black ops 2, The Pinball Arcade, Forza Horizon, NBA 2k13, and some others I'm probably forgetting.

edit: Oh yeah I liked Max Payne 3 even though it had a lot of flaws.

My disappointments of the year (which is different than saying they are bad games) AC 3 for not being polished enough. Mass Effect 3 for not being the goty like Mass Effect 2 which I was dreaming of. And Diablo 3 for not being the leap I secretly hoped it was going to be like Diablo 2 was to the original.

I too am not voting till Farcry 3/Hitman is in my hands.

But the year so far for me has my lineup looking like this in no particular order:

1.X-com (truest sequel to ever have been released)
2.Forza Horizon (It's everything I ever wanted, now give me a bigger game to drive around in)
3.Sleeping Dogs (not perfect, but very refreshing)
4.Skyrim (new to me)
5.Borderlands 2 (so much game here to play, wish there was more rpg elements)

I put 100+ hours into Diablo 3, so we're not gonna see eye to eye on that

And path of exile is goddamned boring- played the beta- mechanics are busted, loot is boring

I think I'm just burned out on that very specific incarnation of the genre. I played Diablo 3 and it was fine but I kept thinking I'm not having as much fun as I thought I would and I'm certainly not having as much fun as when I played Diablo 2 back in the day. And it had nothing to do with all the stuff that other people were bitching about. I don't give a shit about an "end game".

What I eventually realized at least for me was that the whole process just wasn't as fun anymore because I'm playing the exact same conceptual game in nearly every way I did in Diablo 2 and so very little has changed to give it a new novel feel for me. When I played Diablo 2 it felt like a revolution over the original. It's been so long since two that I kind of thought they would do the same again. But instead it just feels like a modern graphics version of Diablo 2.

I played Torchlight 2 and ran into the exact same feeling except a lot quicker.

I personally don't have any real technical problems with either game. I think they are both well made games. I totally understand why other people would like them. I Just feel like a need a new setting, or a whole bunch of new conventions in that genre before I want to play another.

Hotline Miami, followed by Walking Dead followed by Dota 2.

Diablo 3 could have been perfect and i put 30/40 hours into the beta alone, the combat system is so good an the feedback is so delicious. Unfortunately the experience was totally ruined by some design decisions. The first playthrough should have been amazing but thanks to the low difficulty level and the AH it felt like a cakewalk with no challenge whatsoever, extremely dissapointing remembering how getting deeper and deeper into hell in Diablo 1 made me shit my pants. Blizz focussed so hard on making a threadmill for years to come they forgot to make a compelling 20 hour journey. A waste of a great combat system and assets.

TL2, soulless sequel to a soulless game. I quit TL in 2008 before i finished cause it was boring, now I quit TL2 for sam reason. Will not buy TL3.

BL2, ok I guess. Had some fun cooping this with my buddy but we stopped playing around level 13 and I have 0 urge to go back.

Legend of Grimrock, great game as far as I played. I prob stopped cause it was getting hard, enjoyed the hours spent with it.

As a cheap ass gamer I spent many hours on old games like Swtor
