I have a PSP Go, but are there any other good options? Are any of those shitty ching chong Android handhelds good?

nexus 7 is fantastic, albeit not a handheld really. It can emulate dreamcast games for god sakes. And it has controller support for anything USB based if you root it. So all of those old SNES USB controllers or xbox 360 pads will work with it. The only problem is space, you don't get very much with it, but its enough for a lot of old games.

That is an option. I do own a Nexus 7 and have one of these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ecea/

Didnt know it can emulate Dreamcast. Any links?

None of the emulators are good since they're based off old ass SNES9X / PC emulator builds and aren't really optimized. Honestly your PSPGo is probably the best choice.

I got mine from XDA its called NULLDCE, it isn't optimized right out of the box (nothing is) but with some tweaks from the XDA forums you can get it running smoothly. Sound is always an issue with emulated dreamcast stuff. PSone stuff and N64 emulators are out there too. And of course anything 32bit and lower is easy peasy.

PSPgo is great, but it doesn't have nearly the same amount of power as the Nexus 7 does.

Poop. I was hoping there'd be an under the radar handheld that would be good. Like those openpandora handhelds but with less aspergers.

Tommo did make some pretty good emulation machines, but now they are focusing on legit projects. The Neo Geo X is pretty awesome.

DC emulation came to a halt on PC...is someone really actively making a DC emu for tablets?

PSP seems like the way to go.  And if the Vita gets opened up...dang son

PSP 3000 until the Vita gets hacked.

It's a shame Mame is such a festering pile of sh1t on PSP though, that said - Final Burn Alpha is pretty awesome if you get the set of per-game-set optimised emus

The PSP Go is great in that it's tiny, but the PSP 3000 means you can at least attempt to play cave shmups etc vertically.

But then again -  PSP has the controller syncing+TV out which means if you carry a few bits and bobs around you can have a portaarcade. Also - the PSP library is pretty hot.

yeah, right now Vita hacking is within the PSP sandbox.  You still get that d-pad, screen, etc. but it's largely the same as on the PSP.  No more, maybe less.

I remember how slow PS1 emulation was progressing on the PSP before Sony released its own, and whoops, turns out you can exploit it with Hot Shots Golf 2 and play almost all PS1 games on your PSP

Yeah a 2000+ model PSP is your best option mate, you're already there.

it seemed like a lot of the big games ran well.  except Yoshi's Island b/c of the FX2 chip (you can play the GBA version and enjoy yoshi's grunts + a washed out pallet.)

The later versions of SNES9X on the PSP worked pretty well for me. It wasn't updated for a while then some other dev took over and I believe is still maintaining it. The UI on it still sucks major dick, though.

I looked into that Dreamcast emulator, and while it's nowhere near stable I can see some good progress. I'll probably mess around with it on the weekend if I can get some ISOs prepped :pirate

Nah bro, Dreamcast on Android (Nexus 7, in particular)

PSP can't even do N64 emulation.
