Consumer-bore, assemble! Need a new... bookbag? wtf
« on: December 08, 2012, 01:22:07 AM »
Well the complimentary capcom bookbag that I got from the 2002 Gamestop manager's conference is finally dying.  I need something to lug books and probably a small laptop (think surface, netbook, maybe a small sager) around in.  This is the bitchiest part- it HAS TO HAVE a little side pocket thing that will hold a water bottle or coffee mug thingajigger, because I work until 3 in the morning and will have class at 9:30 two days a week next semester, and transporting caffeine around with me will be a fucking necessity.  After that, comfort and dependability are my other concerns.  Anybody got any suggestions in the $50-60 range?

Thanks.  I'm also looking at this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Backpack-Designed-Laptops-CVR600/dp/B0001H27PS/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1354947829&sr=8-12&keywords=targus+backpack

Not sure which direction I'm going to go, but both seem to meet my requirements.

targus makes some of the best bags out there. Protection wise they can be a bit on the light side, but they will hold up to daily use and abuse. Are you looking for a backpack or a messenger bag style?

Backpack.  Fat people shouldn't use messenger bags, we end up looking like fat stupid Bauer wannabes.

It's unfortunate that you're not open to messenger bags. I've been using the same JanSport bag since 2007, it's very durable, offers good amount of space (fits my books, netbook, coffee mug, among other things). It's a bit on the wider side though. But it's going strong and almost good as new. I love it.

Any chance for you to reconsider?

I can't argue with that, it's true.

The last one I bought was this.

I think I'm going to get a new messenger bag for when I only have a few things to carry around.

Messenger bags always hurt my shoulders. I find that a backpack distributes the weight better.

Pretty much this.  My fucking accounting textbook weighs like 8 pounds.

I've been carrying this one for a year and a half now.  Never had a problem out of it.

The front compartment has an organizer in it, the middle is for paperwork and such, the back has a padded sleeve for a laptop as well as room for books.  There is a mesh pocket on one side for a waterbottle, and the other side has a zipper-pouch that's great for carrying external media.  For $50, it's worth it.
