The worst part about this is that the executives which forced people to release that UDraw shit for PS360 probably won't suffer at all, I'm sure they'll get a nice bonus and will have no problem finding some other job with their "experience".  Goddamn tragedy.

AKI did make a really shitty Wii fighting game.

which was not promising, but then again, they did make a pair of pretty good looking Yakuza spinoffs that I'll likely never play at any point in my life and I feel poorer for it.

oh yeah, Yukes has got to be shitting bricks about now.

Maybe EA or Activision can turn their franchises into something good.

Saint's Row will be canceled but the engine will be used for an open world Wu Tang game.

Id buy that.

Unlike Saints Row which I didnt buy.

It won't happen. The fight for Red Faction was abandoned long before THQ began spiraling the drain.

Volition changed from an open-world game to RF: Armageddon's shooter format because RF: Guerrilla didn't meet sales expectations. Then Armageddon failed to sell at all. Arguably, this is THQ marketing snatching defeat from the jaws of victory again, failing to move units on another exceptional game, the same way they manage to failed at moving Saints Row.

I'm glad you mentioned it though: I need to download RF:G's DLC before it disappears into administration limbo.

Yeah, 4M is definitely not shabby, but it's a better game than GTA. SR1 was a better game than GTA.

I don't think there's really anything THQ could have done to get to GTA-like sales for Saints Row. Anymore than anybody else can get COD-like sales for their first-person shoot, regardless of quality.

1? Yes. 2 and 3, no not at all. Two was a pretty well made game that fixed a lot of 1's issues and with 3 it finally found it's personality and style.

I have a feeling some other publisher would have interest in the red faction name and franchise. As far as sales nobody in the open world genre is taking down GTA. It's a genre king and will remain that.

I think Saints Row 3 was the first in the series to make that franchise credible in a way with with critics that the prior games had never been. It was also the first one in the series that compelled me to finish it.

On one hand I think being given an EA budget would allow Saints Row to flourish in scale and scope. On the other hand, you could definitely see them interfering and potentially shaving off the enjoyable outsider appeal that the series has been able to cultivate.

No quoting of Methodis! It negates the positive effects engendered by those who have him on Ignore.

I agree that GTA isn't going to be taken down; it's got a lot of momentum and is running on it quite well. I'd just like to see the -- was it 22M that GTA IV did? -- be approached within 50%, or even 30% by Saints Row, instead of the 25% at which it seems to be lingering.

big surprise-- South Park Studios and THQ fight it out over the South Park game.  SPS wants to get it back and doesn't want it to go up for auction.  looks like they filed some docs a few days ago.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509423

on the plus side, South Park Studios has infinite money (thus, infinite lawyers) and will probably get it back quickly.  Then they can find a good publisher for it...though I'm not sure why they (or Valhalla Studios) went with THQ in the first place.

Yeah, they'd have had one at some point to publish this game.  When there's something extreme like THQ's bankruptcy at play, contract law tends to get more and more malleable.  Unless it was covered for in the contract (probably was...these contracts are gigantic.)  If they had something that says THQ will own the game forever, even after losing the license to make new ones and even in the case of bankruptcy, then South Park Studio's chances of winning would decrease.

That chart explains THQ's bet on Udraw pretty well. They were already in the shitter but were saved in 2010 thanks to the Wii version of Udraw. So you can imagine how eager/desperate they were to replicate its success in 2011.

They still would have been in trouble without the U Draw fiasco, but might have been able to keep things going until the situation improved. But, then U Draw for 360/PS3 happened and that was where the remaining wheels came loose.

Oh certainly. Udraw 360/PS3 was them betting everything left on a success and failing horribly. Without it they probably would have limped into next gen before finally going the way of Midway.
