Now that custom firmware is available there are no longer any valid reasons to not buy a Vita.

WHAT

My boss Jake is selling his for $150, wondering if I should splurge

dont help me none since i only own P4G

can I atleast do the AR card stuff?
You can play the tutorial app called Welcome Park! There are a few free AR games available from the PSN store that are worth trying out for the novelty alone, but you'll grow tired of them almost immediately.

I managed to the same mistake when I bought my first PSP.

I would need to get the vita for $200 and a 32gb for $50 to take the plunge. Maybe not even then.

Unless you're going digital distribution only you'll manage with a 16 GB memory card.

I have a 32GB iPhone and a 64GB iPad, I shouldn't have to dwell in the 16GB slums for a $250+ device.

I plan on doing PSN+ and I honestly won't use this thing that much so an 8gig card will suffice.

How much is a 32GB microsd card?

How likely are they to receive dev support 6 months from now?

I got it for $80 after shipping but looks like amazon.com has it for about $90 before shipping.  So assume $100 worst case.

Probably not much development support.  I guess a new Tales game is coming out for it and I imagine we'll probably get another couple of Falcom games, if you're into that kind of thing.  There's a Killzone coming out for it in the next few months but in spite of the double sticks, most FPS games on Vita have been shit.

Honestly I think the main reason to get a Vita is if you missed out on a lot of PS1/PSP games and you want to catch up.  For instance, I've been wanting to play Wild Arms XF and it is $10 on PSN.  I don't have much faith in the original Vita software library but you never know.  Depends on how stubborn Sony wants to be in keeping it going.

Edit: To be fair to the Vita, there's a lot of good original games out for it now.  The "Vita has no games" thing is a bunch of bullshit.

somewhere between $600-$800

for that price, I expect dual analog sticks and buttons on my device.  Why is apple so cheap that they can't just add that stuff?  :teehee

Exactly, and the difference in price between a 16 and a 32 GB iPhone 5 is $100. I understand if you don't think it's worth the money, but comparing it with Apple products is just silly.

the phone bill is also $80 a month minimum, unless he's on a family plan or business plan.

I know the world likes Apple now, but remember what people used to say when apple products were "hipster"-- that they aren't a good value.  They still aren't a good value.  Not saying i don't like them, my macbook has been great and i'll buy another and i'll get an iphone if it ever goes prepaid.   What you get for what you pay doesn't add up though...it's just that you can't get that kind of form factor and software and app support anywhere else.

My point was not to compare the two devices, but to say that I am not someone who wants to risk running out of space. Therefore I will not settle for a low spec Vita. Since Sony doesn't want me to use the 32GB MicroSD card I already have, I am stuck paying $350 for something that is near worthless.

I sell my old iPhones and iPads for nearly as much as I pay for them, there is no risk of them going belly up or being unsellable down the line.

For the record I don't think Apple should be selling 16GB anything anymore, either. But the point was not to make a direct comparison.

I just picked up my first smartphone, a 16 GB iPhone 4, for less than half of what I paid for my Vita. What do you use all that space for? I figured iOS games would be tiny.

It depends on what you get out of it.  definitely hasn't been worthless to me.  I'm not sure what the point of mentioning the idevices was for then....they have a tiny amount of space to me and do they have a port for flash memory now or something, cause you mentioned the micro SD card too.

I have about 40 games on my vita and still a couple gigs to spare.   I could buy a $500 dollar ipad and be in the same "what do i even do with this" situation as you with the vita, so I'm not sure where we're going with this...point taken about the resale value though.

they're both fairly overpriced devices using bullshit proprietary memory with subjective usefulness...except one company can afford to have a device like that on the market and the other really, really shouldn't :lol

I guess one good thing about Vita memory is that the card size can always increase and prices can drop, go on sale, bought with store credit, etc.  Though I'm not sure what incentive they have to drop prices...it's not like pro-duo that was used in a wide variety of devices.

Statement: Vita costs $350 with 32GB card. Device is not worth it to me at this price
Response: You only need a 16GB card.
Statement: I do not like memory management so I would not settle for 16GB, it's 32GB or nothing. For example, I have these other two devices that I do not memory manage, that are not being introduced for the purpose of direct comparison.

Nice thing about Japan is that the latest iPhone model is usually free with contract.  So I finally paid an appropriate price for an Apple product.

As for the size of iOS games, some install at nearly 2 GB.  Can't imagine getting by with a 16 GB unit.  I feel tight enough with 32 GB.  Few of those large games support cloud saving, too, so if you delete the game for space, bye bye saved game.

I totally :derp ed, was gonna ask why you couldn't just go into the file system and back it up.

Speaking of H4G, I've been avoiding it all this time because people have insisted to experience 3 first, since going back to the less developed mechanics of 3 would be unwise. How true is that?

I can only guess that's a combination of the exchange rate and Sony already giving up on the console. How many sales would really be gained from anything short of a huge price cut? $50 here or there will probably have little impact but cost Sony enough to dissuade them.

They should keep the price the same but sell a microSD->Vitacard adapter.

ah, P3:Fes?  that changes things a bit...I'm not sure if that has the fast travel menus for town.  but P3P does.  Personally, i'd have to have that in there cause the run speed is a bit slow.

In Persona 3 you don't have direct control of the other party members. Going back to that might be frustrating. When are you getting back your PS3?

Edit: P3:Fes is the same as the original game (+ one bonus game). You don't use menus to navigate through the game. That's one of the reasons it's the better experience.

Go with P3P if you really have no other way to play it, it's decent but the lack of some things is noticable if you've played FES.

But really, FES is the superior version. I don't really have a problem with AI teammates since I'm not a moron and know how to set them to "knock-down/wait->all-out attack"
