Why could you care about cross platform MP?

Seems odd to me. Especially since mouse and keyboard versus gamepad is a huge gulf. The most popular mp games draw plenty of support within their own platforms.  Although I like how something like Need for Speed has integrated leaderboards no matter the platform through its origin service.

My huge demand of next gen is backwards compatibility. To sell someone DLC and digital content and then turn around and say that's only for the old system would be a huge mistake imo.

Some other nice things would be.

Consoles embracing free to play games.
More frequent and less costly title updates for devs.

I guess. I just don't ever think when I'm playing cod how awesome it would be to be playing with ps3 guys at that moment. But to each his own.

-more Japanese console games, specifically 2D platformers, fighting games, shmups, and (of course) RPGs
-less DRM and shit like "online passes"
-free online for all of the next gen systems
-no gimmicky controls/Kinect
-variable pricing on retail games
-reasonable console prices, no more "five-hundred-and-ninety-nine US dollars!" shit
-standardized cloud saving/backups
-no more nickel-and-dime DLC, or making important parts of the game DLC *cough*Capcom*cough*EA*cough*
-backwards compatibility
-region free
-digital downloads from this gen transfer over seamlessly

Yep, my wishlist is pretty similar to those above. I juts want a high-powered system and interesting games. Of course backwards compatibility and  region free would be nice bonuses. I personally don't mind expensive consoles if that means I get a better experience out of it, but at the same time the price has be low enough that the consoles are adopted by a wider audience.

Edit: And a fast and responsive OS with features like custom soundtracks and voice chat would be great.

All you need for that is a Roku box, which is about $50. Then you download the Plex media player. Boom. Instant streaming from your PC with subtitles.

Honestly, no idea. I was a late adopter this gen and I will be again next gen. Between my backlog, emulation of rpg classics and the pc games that will be dirt cheap next year I've got stuff for the next 5 years to play.

If there would be something really interesting gameplay/experience wise maybe, I've just no idea what that could be. And at this point I don't give a shit about graphics from a technical standpoint anymore. If a char has triple the polygons or 10 additional shader effects, I just don't care. Open world games have become good enough this gen, so I don't know what devs could do techwise to really enhance the experience.

Well, I've got the feeling next gen will be essentially old games on new hardware, which gets me less excited. Maybe some demos and trailers at E3 will convince me otherwise.

it takes literally 5 seconds to hook up a hdmi port from your computer to your television. why you need a console for that?

Yes which they use for computer stuff and which they don't want to go and find a hdmi cable to hook up their laptap(which they would probably like to use as the relax and stream whatever is they are watching) and would rather use a home media device that is already hooked up their tv which is for media viewing.

It's not excuses. If they were, why would any of these streaming apps and devices exist and sell when you can "just plug in a computer". There's no point to PS3 Media server or Roku if these were just excuses. People don't want to just plug in their computer.

And I do. I have my computer plugged right into my tv through HDMI and when I want to watch a mkv file or the family wants to, I take my computer upstairs to the main tv room and plug it in to that tv. It's not a hassle, but if my PS3 or whatever could play MKV files without a problem it would be very much preferable and easier. To argue against having consoles be able to play more mkv files is pretty stupid.

Nice! Yeah, it's always an issue. It's the number 1 thing people complain to me about their HDTVs, which is awesome because it's so easy to fix. That and fucking motion smoothing, always get people saying their HDTVs make everything look 'hyper real' and 'like a Soap Opera' which isn't surprising when their sets are splicing in digital frames. My set calls it "Intelligent Frame Creation" and had it on by default like most other TVs being sold today. I still don't know why they insist on doing this  :yuck  :-X  :yuck

My parents' Samsung SMART TV has apps for Netflix and HBO GO built-in, but they automatically create that effect and I have no idea how to turn it off. It annoys the fuck out of me every time I'm home because TV from the FiOS box doesn't have the effect. I should probably look deeper into the manual, there has to be a way to turn it off within the apps.

Ehh... it's good in some movies and bad in other ones. Action scenes look very good with it, explosions, water running etc. talking heads: nope.gif.

It still makes action scenes look cheap, especially when the TV decides it should add some motion blur as well
