It doesn't really apply beyond the first Predator movie though, in AvP (*spits*) the young hunter is eventually portrayed as a noble, honorable and prestigious thing. He is still however a shitty mcshit toothless and ineffective (without pew pews) coward.

Well I made this thread cause I watched Predator (Classic), AvP 2004 and Predator (remake) this weekend. Having watched it again I must say it's not as bad as people would have you believe(I was too a nay sayer). It's not amazing either, it sits comfortably in mediocrity and as a fan of the general series it is a little above mediocre. The setting, tactics and characters overall are much more interesting to me than the original. And the scene where the native american guy with the big knife stays behind on the trunk bridge is much better here.

Predators starts out really well, and it's unbelievably suspenseful until about halfway through, at which point it gets dumb as fuck.

As for the premise of this thread, aliens aren't cake opponents. They're at least eight feet tall and super strong with blade tails and acid blood. Plus they have mouths inside their mouths so they can eat you while they eat you. An unarmed and unarmored predator should lose to an alien. If its a queen, then no contest.

Not really. It's pretty, and probably better than Predator 2, but nothing really special. Maybe if I'd seen it on something other than an airplane screen, I'd have enjoyed the ride.

Predators really needed a writer other than two guys with no previous writing experience.

It was actually based on a script that Robert Rodriguez wrote back in 1994, but I'm not sure how much of it was left after being rewritten in 2009.

What Predator really needs is an older predator antagonist being hunted by a young generation of predators who use human technology "for the challenge" - sort of like humans today hunting with a bow and arrow. I'm envisioning a scene where the old predator is running through the desert (the film would be set during the Wild West) muttering "I'm too old for this shit"
