"Monetary policy: When I arrived at Princeton in 2000 there was a group of us—“Japan worriers”. I am the only one still there. Mike Woodford, Lars Svensson, who is now run off to the Riksbank, me, and Ben Bernanke—I wonder what happened to him? All of us were very concerned by what was happening to Japan in the 1990s. Some people looked at it and said: “That just shows how messed up the Japanese are.” Some of us looked at us and said: “Surface differences apart, Japan looks a lot like us: big advanced country, lots of room to maneuver, government officials who might not be the most brilliant but who were not complete idiots, and if they could get trapped in this sort of deflationary stagnation then it could happen to us.” Sure enough, it did."

Modulo some find/replace work this could apply equally well to anime / videogames and popular culture

Oh man, they started doing something new at work with new employees -sending out Email messages with their photo and a bio- and one dude put that he loves My Little Pony and Bambi all over it.  The photo was just so...40 year old balding man-child....that my team lead saw it and just burst out laughing on a conference call.   :lol :lol :lol

At work today one of the older guys there (a mid 50's software engineer, absolutely brilliant man) was talking about MLP with another lady (whose kids watch it). Like, he even knew the characters names and stuff. Was kinda interesting since the majority of my job is extremely conservative oldskool engineer types, never thought one would be familiar with MLP.

As long as it's not pronounced moh-eh, you're good.

I didn't know what moe was until like three or four years ago. Sure I watched Sailor Moon as a kid and would probably buy it on DVD...but that's as far as I can go   :-\
