This is the same game I was told "wasn't worth buying" a few days ago in the 3DS thread by several people, right?

Yes, I still stand by that.

But now that it'll have better controls and functional online, go nuts! : )

Yeah, game is among the worst of the traditional RE games, but I'm sure a host of folks will find new appreciation for it.

Until it's announced for Wii U as well, and then it'll go back to not being worth buying.

yeah, I don't think a straight port will fix it.  Some of the performance later in the game is bad, so that might be fixed.  Who knows, though.  That EX Troopers game ran poorly on PS3 and I've seen complaints about the Wii U monster hunter 3ds port (I didn't read into these; could be exaggerated).

May 2013

Quote
CAPCOM CONFIRMS RESIDENT EVIL™ REVELATIONS FOR HOME CONSOLE RELEASE IN MAY 2013

London, UK. — January 22nd, 2013 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Resident Evil™ Revelations will release at retail for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Windows® PC and Nintendo’s Wii U™ console across North America on May 21st and Europe on May 24th 2013. The title will also be available to download digitally from the same dates on PlayStation®3 for €49.99 and Windows®PC for €39.99 with details on digital versions for Xbox 360® and Nintendo’s Wii U™ console to follow.

Complete with high quality HD visuals, enhanced lighting effects and an immersive sound experience, the fear that was originally brought to players in Resident Evil Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS™ system returns redefined for home consoles. Furthermore, the home console version will deliver additional content including a terrifying new enemy, extra difficulty mode and improvements to Raid Mode such as new weapons, skill sets and the opportunity to play as Hunk and other characters from the series. Raid Mode, which was first introduced to the series in the original version of Resident Evil Revelations, sees gamers play online in co-op mode or alone in single player, taking on the hordes of enemies across a variety of missions whilst levelling up characters and earning weapon upgrades.

The critically acclaimed survival horror title takes players back to the events that took place between Resident Evil™ 4 and Resident Evil™ 5 and reveals the truth about the T-Abyss virus. Resident Evil Revelations features series favourites Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, plus respective BSAA partners – Parker Luciani and Jessica Sherawat. The action begins on board a supposedly abandoned cruise ship, the ‘Queen Zenobia’, where horrors lurk around every corner, before players head for the mainland and the devastated city of Terragrigia. With limited ammo and weapons available the race is on to survive the horror of Resident Evil Revelations.

Resident Evil Revelations will take full advantage of Residentevil.net with content available to users once the game launches. Players can pre-register on the service from January 24th to gain early access to Resident Evil Revelations themed content with further information about online events to be revealed closer to launch.

$50? Might as well just get it on 3DS, lol. The extra content doesn't seem worth it. WOW A WHOLE NEW ENEMY AND PLAYABLE CHARACTER ZOMG

PC version is super nice to see though.

From the GAF thread:

It's been over 16 months since Capcom announced anything for Vita, and their sole release for the platform last year seems to have been more a contractual obligation to Sony than anything. Don't expect anything from them.

What was the contractual obligation game? Marvel vs. Capcom? SxT?

probably SFxT.  Marvel vs. Capcom was just a standard port to have a presence on the console from day 1, in case it gets popular.  Team Ninja does the same thing with every hardware launch, though I guess they are happier with their sales because they are porting everything to Vita.

SFxT with the cross-platform stuff and the extra characters that were (originally) being held over for other platforms until the Vita release

Didn't the game sell below Capcom's expectations on 3DS?  The lack of a Vita port doesn't seem very surprising.

do you fight those guys the whole game
Them and and a few others.  Enemy variety is definitely really, really lacking... but it's a TRUE RE! Stands alongside the numbered games! Totally.

And again, it's better in Raid Mode, since the enemy sizes/speed/strength can differ, plus you get different characters to play as and different weapons/abilities to unlock and equip.  They really should have made Raid Mode the actual game.  It's so much more fun than the story mode, plus it offers online co-op.  The last stage of Raid Mode is basically the entire cruise ship, filled with enemies, including multiple boss battles at the very end.  It's insane.

Things could always change, but I don't think Capcom will be making any more Vita games.  Their Vita games didn't even sell too badly, but something else went down there.

Relatively or overall? How did they sell compare to their 3DS efforts?

Father_Brain

  • Junior Member
MvC3 sold well, no "relatively" necessary.  Not quite up to SSF4 on 3DS, but not far behind either.

You mean worldwide?  The NPD ranges I saw had SSFIV3D at somewhere between 300K and 400K, with UMVC3 between 100K and 200K.  Granted, I'm pretty sure that Capcom engaged in significant channel-stuffing on the former, so it's entirely possible that UMVC moved a higher percentage of units at full price.

Father_Brain

  • Junior Member
I'm comparing them at the same relative time in their lifespan.

Well, never mind, then!

Anyway, while I did find Revelations quite enjoyable, anyone who claims it's truly console-quality is completely deluded.  Level design is much weaker and less varied than RE4, enemy types are limited and aren't as much fun to kill as Ganados/Majini... it's a good portable spinoff, IMO, but it feels like just that - a portable spinoff.

bork

  • おっぱいは命、尻は故郷

Agreed- I don't think it would have mattered if this had been a $15 downloadable game, but for the reasons Father Brain listed, the console version could very well end up getting a bad reception.

it's no secret that this was at least in planning for Vita so the fact that it's not coming is pretty much a "lol lol lol no" to Sony.

As my poster boy for Vita fanboyism i will say that it was a shite game so no one cares.

I am slightly amused that Capcoms support for the WiiU seems to consist of up ports of 3DS games - whilst that is better than Vita it'd simply like to add another "+1" to Capcom's "2nd laziest company in gaming" tally.

Sven refuses to directly answer a yes/no question on whether Capcom has further Vita support planned, but had no trouble answering a similar question about future Wii U support in the affirmative when asked back in September.  Speaks for itself, no?
