Methodis got a job at Forbes

Quote
What can we expect next at Microsoft?

Ballmer has committed to fight to the death in his effort to defend & extend Windows.  So expect death as resources are poured into the unwinnable battle to convert users from iOS and Android.
As resources are poured out of the company in the Quixotic effort to prolong Windows/Office, any hope of future dividends falls to zero.

Expect enormous layoffs over the next 3 years.  Something like 50-60%, or more, of employees will go away.

Expect closure of the long-suffering on-line division in order to conserve resources.

The entertainment division will be spun off, sold to someone like Sony or possibly Barnes & Noble, or dramatically reduced in size.  Unable to make a profit it will increasingly be seen as a distraction to the battle for saving Windows – and Microsoft leadership has long shown they have no idea how to profitably grow this business unit.

As more and more of the market shifts to competitive cloud infrastructure Apple, Amazon, Samsung and others will grow significantly.  Microsoft, losing its user base, will demonstrate its inability to build a new business in the cloud, mimicking its historical failures with Zune (mobile music) and Microsoft mobile phones.  Microsoft server and tool sales will suffer, creating a much more difficult profit environment for the sole remaining profitable division.

So between MS rapidly eroding marketshare, Sony selling off skyscrapers, and WiiU tanking - looks like there's not gonna be much of a games market left.

Quit living in the past.  The future is all about digital distribution- who gives a shit who made the box you play your games on?  Quit being a figurt.

If everything went PC download-only, I guess I could live with that. Even though I do like 'feelies'. But I don't really want a touchscreen-only market with such great games like "FF: IAP Assrape 3" and "2D Platformer with Virtual DPad that Doesn't Work".

At least I'll still be able to play my PS2 games 10 years from now (and considering the way gaming is going, this is what I'll probably be doing). What happens if one of the big 3 goes under and you can't play any of your DD games from them anymore?

I bought Outrun XBLA when it came out, I just found out that apparently it was pulled off XBLA because Sega didn't want to renew their Ferrari license. So if I ever had a HD crash I will never be able to play that game again. Several games have already been pulled off Wiiware, never to be seen again. That sucks if you're a person like me who frequently goes back and plays older games.

(also, I'm not into comics :P)

Considering that the Japanese aren't making much interesting for smartphones/tablets either, looks like I won't bother with anything next gen!

I think you're being a bit too pessimistic man... decent japanese games that you like will still be made for 3DS, the odd console JRPG still comes out, lots of interesting indie stuff coming out on PC...

"Hardcore" games will always get made, they will just be even more niche than they already are.

I could give a shit about old games....I give that shit away to any fool that will take them. Anything worthwhile is clearly going to be remade ad infinitum anyway. Game boxes are vile things and the less of them exist in this world, the better.

What if my HD crashes? WHAT IF YOUR 15 YEAR OLD PS2 DIES

I dunno, i'll play my 300-plus steam library for a few decades i guess

Well, that's you, I love old games, frequently go back and play ones I've missed, and there's plenty of awesome games that aren't gonna be remade or re-released, due to licensing issues/companies dying/lost source code/etc.

Also the only system of mine that "died" was my 360 getting RROD. :P

Tiesto you're coming off as a whiny bitch. Stop

Just telling it like it is. This gen has been pretty grim for someone with my tastes and I fear it's only gonna get worse. Let me bitch once in a while. It's not like I'm Derrick01 who bitches about stuff in EVERY thread. Just wanted to argue with the all-digital brigade why I personally don't favor an all-digital route.

You're telling it like you think it is but the reality is that the vast majority of gamers moved on from the games you're talking about years ago, or are too young to ever have cared. The majority have embraced digital distribution and i bet you too as well (on your phone at least - would you prefer Angry Birds on a cart?) and nobody wants DVD boxes or Blu-ray boxes or game boxes unless they are super-fancy MAYBE

I never said that I speak for everybody (and I know my game taste is somewhat niche, even on specialist boards like this or GAF), just telling why DD makes me feel somewhat uneasy. And yes I do have plenty of digital games for all systems except 3DS.

Yeah, it's soooo easy to learn a new language. Not like I have a billion other things going on in my life and a full-time job to deal with :P

I actually did take 2 years of Japanese in college for my degree's language requirement and aced the courses. But that was 10 years ago and I forgot a lot of it (especially the kanji I learned).

Like I said, don't know why everyone's jumping on me all of a sudden. I'm not saying "death to DD" nor am I forcing any of my tastes on anybody, I don't really care what the rest of you choose to play or how you want to play it. I like old games, I like boxes and collector's editions with all sorts of random crap in them, deal with it.
