Well the main dude looks exactly like Shulk.  So either's it's a direct sequel/prequel or it's a custom character from an MMO.

Shit camera and 2d sprites on 3d environment. Managing camera is tedious shit. Platforming is tedious shit. Just not a good game.

WTF did I just watch? Some  Monster Hunter game? I really hope this is an actual party based jrpg and I can avoid any type of online portion. But that just looked like Munster Hunter with a tamer version of Star Ocean 4's visuals. Though the bar did look like Xenoblade .

Other than having large monsters [which Xenoblade 1 also had] and allowing for multiplayer of some kind, I don't see much there that reminds me of Monster Hunter. It reminds me more of, ya know, XENOBLADE 1.

Based upon what I can tell, basic combat seems a bit more interactive than Xenoblade 1, which is a good thing imo.

The one thing I'd really like to hear more about is whether this is more of a single-character game with the option to bring some mutliplayer people along or if it's a party-based game with the option to replace the members of your party with multiplayer people. Parts of it seem to suggest that former, but other parts look more like the MC has NPC party members, so I can't really tell for sure just from what they've shown so far.

Well there's what looked to be a chat system thing and well it's probably placeholder, but the readings of the party being Player 1, Player 2, ect ect...

But yes it looked more like Xenoblade then anything. I just don't really like co-op and I hope they aren't making a game with a big focus on it.

this kinda makes me mad at NOA all over again.

so there was a Xenoblade 2 at some point in development, albeit years away from release when they passed on publishing the first one in America and only did so because they got a sweetheart co-pub deal from Gamestop so they could guarantee whatever modest profit they got from pushing their extremely limited print run.

dicks.

Actually it probably went more like:

"Uh hey Reggie."

"Yeah?"

"So you're passing on Xenoblade...?"

"Yeah, it's going to tank in sales. It also kinda seems like a one off like Disaster. Kind of a no brainer."

"About that... we're making a sequel for it."

"What really?"

"And considering the barren Wii U release schedule... we kinda need for you to make a big deal out of it in America."

"FUCK. So Xenoblade-"

"That needs to come out now."

"SHIT. FUCK."

"Please understand."

"GODAM- Wait, those Eurotards are translating it anyways. Guess we can just have them make some extra and we'll stamp the ESRB logo on them. Crisis averted."

(Image removed from quote.)
Yeah, I don't like Xenosaga at all. I tried to get into it, since coming off FFX people said to get episode 1. I finished 1 and thought the boost system was pretty cool, but outside of that it was pretty boring. Character development system did'nt really feel engaging, just busy work with no real visual reward like say the sphere grid system. Plus I just did'nt know what was going on, nor did I care.

I thought two looked cool, but the battle system just seemed overly complex for no reason. I also just didn't care about the Jr and UTV shit so I never finished it.

I got three for xmas the year of it's release. People claimed "oh this one was great". I was so far removed from this story that just seemed to be in love with itself. I finished it, but basically forgot it.

Cool music though.

My save file reads 77:36
Fought the last boss at level 81.
That's without doing many of the side quests.  I knew the game was going to be long so I pressed on... and on... AND ON!  I spent significant time grinding though.  I'd look up in a FAQ to see what level the next boss was and I'd grind until I matched levels.

Best 77 hours and 36 minutes I've spent gaming in a long long time.

Best JRPG of this gen hands down.  And it's up there with my favorite JRPGs ever.  My favorite game world to spend time in and explore.  Breathtaking in-engine vistas.  I genuinely liked the characters.  I think the voice acting was handled well (and there's so much of it!).  The story was creative and interesting.  The ending was heady but not heavy handed.  I found myself thinking later in the game that Xenoblade was in many ways what I would have wanted thematically and tonally out of a new single player Phantasy Star V.

I started the game on my soft modded Wii back in 2011 when the EU version was released got about 25 hours in.  Finally picked it back up when I snagged a US copy to play on my Wii U (I hacked the region on my old save file).  It was definitely a commitment but totally worth it.

Also if Xeno is getting an HD port I hope they announce it ASAP so I don't waste time with the SD version. If I put in more than 10 hours I'm not getting the HD version, let alone 40-80.

We've had some big parties with a fair number of poors hanging round, my ex might have it, and I used to truck it around for work sometimes (was just a standard NTSC drive with a wbfs folder). So I'm playing through Xenoblade now for the first time, sorta.  Last time I tried I got like two hours in and got confused by the affinity shit and just quit.  Now I'm playing through it again and it really is quite fun but I still don't think I've gotten in the groove with it yet.

Is this one of those games where grinding is pretty much essential?  I don't really mind if that's the case because the battle system is pretty enjoyable, but I don't want to get through a dungeon and then get royally fucked in like ten seconds then have to go through the dungeon all over again.

The game is pretty forward at what levels you should be at for each area. And it's super easy to grind and level up through exploration (you get XP for finding landmarks and shit), and quests. Just enjoy the game, it's going to be a long one either way. I blazed through it, and I still wound up shy of 80 hours. I did try to enjoy all that I could - I didnt do any of the super extra stuff.

yeah that makes sense.  before I even got to Tephra Cave or whatever that first dungeon was called, I was already at level ten.  But before I got to the cave I was randomly curbstomped by a rare bunnit motherfucker  :maf

And yeah a lot of those sidequests from colony 9 are a bunch of bullshit.  No bitch, I'm not fucking fixing your watch.

The game does seem difficult early on. It will get much easier as you get better equipment or more characters. I know I tried to kill that giant bug in Tephra Cave and just said fuck it.

The game has icons showing how much stronger / weaker the enemy is as well. I think name color too.
