man... that first level after the prologue... 

thankfully it's short but boy is that a bad way to start your game.

something about the shooting feels off. like, the plasma cutter feels less useful. i find myself using the carbine i got for getting the limited edition.

also the fuck did they do to Ellie? It's not like her character was anything special but the character model was pretty good. it looks like they gave her breasts implants and a face lift. she looks fucked up.

Playing single player. Still very early. Enjoying it so far. Feels like Dead Space.

I listened to the most recent bombcast and Brad seemed to have issues with the game so we'll see if that surfaces as I play more. Runs extremely well on PC. High frames.

I'm not far enough to really speak on the changes yet because the early stuff is typical dead space. The only thing I would say is that honestly I think 3 games on the same hardware following the same format is just probably too much. Even if this was an exact clone of Dead Space 2 which I really liked, I don't think it would hit me the same way. The game needs new juice. Whether that's new graphics on a new console or a re-invention of the formula. Even by the homestretch of Dead Space 2 it was starting to feel formulaic. So a third game rooted in the same stuff is definitely going to start feeling old hat. I think the series needs a lot more monsters. You need a lot more variety to make the combat feel special. You need to be surprised more and with new challenges. The series needs a little break to come up with some new stuff but in today's environment you have to pump it out every 2 years like clockwork which means you have to rely on what you feel comfortable with.

I played the game with the missus over at redwood shores back in november to completion. We were part of a test group that played through the entire game in coop. Even then I knew the game was different than the previous games. Some good and some bad, but what sucked was we were supposed to have a whole day to give EA our feedback. Unfortunately they thought play testing was a better use of our time. So we played through the game and were the first to beat it. Instead of the normal feedback round robin, they let us go home.

There was a lot that stuck out in my mind that could have been fixed. Sadly none of my concerns about the game were taken care of. Which is why I didn't buy the game.

In the demo I kind of rolled my eyes when there was a dumb scripted thing where something fell over and the guy was holding on by his fingers and you had to mash the button to pull yourself up and then dodge falling stuff via QTEs, was that kind of shit in the first two?

So far this game feels like playing Dead Space 2 in Dead Space 1 locations but the locations are smaller and more linear. The old derelict ships have great atmosphere with rusted walls and pips and smoke everywhere. I've found the plasma cutter to be the least useful gun so far in this game which is disappointing because it was always the go-to and the most fun to use. I'm using an upgraded linegun with a force gun attached. Also the carbine/shotgun as well.

I like that there's side stuff as well.

Everything I've seen about this game seems to indicate that this stuff on the ships are the best aspects of the game... and that it goes straight downhill from there.

i liked the first game a lot because i am a sucker for jump scares

i didn't like the second at first because it was more action-oriented, but as it went along i grew to like it more

I'm about 6 hours in. Been on the planet for roughly an hour.

I really haven't found anything substantially negative about this so far. Sure there are some silly QTE moments here and there. Sure little subplot between Isaac, Ellie and that other dude is pretty lame. However the gameplay is still rock fuckin' solid. The last three games worth of experience has made dealing with the necro's fairly easy however I still find it a lot of fun blasting them away. The new enemy class you find on the planet is really creepy and a nice change of pace.

As I've mentioned, the ice planet is apparently where the game takes the dip in quality. Some have said to avoid the optional missions as they are copy-paste quality so I may heed that warning.

I can say that I'm enjoying what I've played thus far.

Lots of people said that but I liked that aspect of the original. Of being in one large environment the whole time. It reminded me of the early Resident evil games.
