Happy Thread (not drunk thread, no really)
« on: February 06, 2013, 12:17:58 AM »
You know, I'm glad this is mainly a happy forum.  Gaf off-topic is like depression central, but while there is sarcasm and jives here and there within the threads themselves (mainly aimed at Green Shinobi or Green Man; fuck why would you make your username with green~~anything; you all get the brunt of the hate.  Maybe we should call him Green Andrex to make everything more logical), the actual threads are pretty lacking in vitrol and we're all basically positive, funny, cool, happy people.  Though sometimes we just need a bit more coffee in our day (creepyoldguy) and sometimes coffee just makes us even more pleasant (MAF).

Anyhow, I had a good night tonight.  Wasn't even from drinking!  Was just from meeting someone I really connect with and having an AWESOME time.  Feels so good to meet people like that once in a blue moon.  Which then makes me feel great!  And want to hang out with everyone, including my favorite forum community, so yeah, <3 you all.  Keep on being the best forum for positive times.

Yeah, I am also pretty fond of this place. Too bad you're all so damned young -- "young" is fine, but you make me feel OLD.

Nah, you're pretty close to our age.  These days I hang out with mainly 20-somethings, so I'm in a similar situation.  We need to hang out again man.  Was nice seeing you last fall, but we should actually go get a beer together at some point.  Maybe I'll head up north later in the year.

You'll have to wait until I'm back in the USA, or until you can make it to Japan, where I currently (again) reside. ;-)

Otherwise, it's a plan!

Whoops, haha.  Let me know when you're back in the US ;)

I'll go back to Japan someday, but with current airline prices...it'll be another few years.

2013 has quickly become one of the worst in recent memory but this place always brings a smile to my face.

I actually had a revelation on the plane here that i am, for the first time in around 3-4 years, 100% content and happy. It was weird - i had a weird grin from ear to ear. This is basically because of the removal of my major source of stress of course, but hey....

Then i got to London - i let some woman with her kid onto the Heathrow express ahead of me and a few others so she could grab a seat. Not a thank you anywhere. Bought some items in stores - no manners, just attitude.

This just made me smile more - Doug Stanhope is right - especially in the south, England is full of miserable people. I was still smiling - got on the train "oop north" - got talking with an Irish business guy and had a good laugh, got talking with a northern student girl - had a laugh, got polite service in the buffet car - talked to the guy there - had a laugh. North > South - Happy > Miserable.

Doug - on why the US is great, and why English people suck :

The Bore is good people.

But yeah, I'm glad this place is a chill and relatively positive environment.

This place is pretty good if you stay out of the relationship and wrestiling threads. If you want a good laugh, read through the school shooting thread. Drew is going to win poster of the year if he keeps it up in that thread.

I think it helps that this forum has a healthy amount of DUDES BEIN DUDES - and folks that know the best way to forget your troubles is with a bottle of alcohol. WE KEEP IT REAL. Also Demi does a good job mocking us when we get SAD PANTS

For the most part, Bore people are good at not taking things personal. We also don't become an angry-yet-sensitive mob defending the honor of people who got their feelings hurt.

Yeah, this place is relatively chill.  I wish more people that liked arpgs posted here but really that's my only complaint.  Fuck, even our ninthings are actual human beings for the most part.

We've only had a couple truly reviled members, ie Black Stallion, Ichi, Makaveli, Methodis, and Symbios. Overall this is one of the best forum communities I've witnessed. And we can usually look back at drama and laugh instead of being bitter or mad.

Make a thread for ARPGs and I'll pick a couple up!

What arpgs are there these days?  All I can think of is Diablo & that LoTR game.  Both which had a handful of regulars playing.  Oh and Torchlight II, but no one seemed to like that one.

Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, and Path of Exile (a free to play recent entry) are the major ones these days, with Grim Dawn on the horizon.  D3 is kind of in limbo, Torchlight 2 sucks, and Path of Exile is getting a lot of attention.

This board got 100x better when Willco left.  Reminds me of old school GAF before 2007 when everything started going shit side up.

I think everyone involved is better off now that willco has left- he's improved his personal life and the forum is definitely better with demi at the helm, which is fucking weird as shit to type.

It's hard for me to be objective about Wilco because he is a Jewish Hack in the exact same mold as my father.  I hope he at least makes a gloat thread when Candy Land comes out.
