Wish I had my toboggan.  There's a ravine just outside my apartment building that would make for some great fun right about now.

My tale.

Borians, growing up in my piddly-ass farming town, when we would have a blizzard, the town plows would, eventually, get to every street.

I lived on a street off the beaten path, but whether it was plowed at 6am, or noon, or 3pm, it would be plowed.

However, today, I live in a booming suburb of the Greater Toronto Area.  This town is rolling in upper-middle class residents.    The tax income has to be such that the mayor and town council could be rolling in the coffers ala Scrooge McDuck.

I leave my house to go to my office at 7:45 am.  The main arterial roads are plowed, but all of the residential streets are not.  Whatever, it's early, I can get through fine, they'll get to it eventually.

Fast forward to 4pm.  I am on my way home.  No problems on the main roads.  I hit my subdivison ---OH SHIT.

Not plowed.  Left for 8 hours, unplowed.  Nearly two feet of snow on the road, everywhere.   It takes me nearly a half hour to drive the hundred yards to get my car into my driveway.  And I wasn't alone, because there were half a dozen other cars stuck in the same situation.  The only way out was that about a dozen of my neighbours, myself included, spent a half hour shovelling the public street just to be able to get our cars into the driveway.

I grew up in the country.  Anytime snow fell, it usually took 2-3 days before the plow would come by.  The plow would do a shitty job too, basically just turning the road into a well compacted sheet of ice.  You had two options: stay home for a week until the snow would melt just enough to provide some locations of gravel for traction or you booked yourself into a motel before the snow hit.

We haven't been hit as hard as some of the American Northeast, but in Toronto, it was officially the most snowfall in a single day since December 2008.

Wow Boogie, sounds like almost the same exact thing that happened to me! Took me about 3 hours to come home from work (I work 33 miles away).. and then I get to my condo complex, none of the roads are plowed. I get stuck getting in, luckily one of my neighbors sees me and hooks me up with a shovel so I can dig myself out. Then I proceed to get stuck twice again having to dig myself out. Finally made it in front of my house and my driveway has about 2 feet of snow covering it. I'm just like "fuck this" and left my car out there, I figure they'll ring my doorbell if they need me to move my car. I have no plans on going anywhere tomorrow.

STORM OF THE CENTURY OF THE WEEK
:rofl YES
I got out of work cause there was a ban on non emergency personnel travelling after 4 p.m. and there wasn't that much out there at the time. Decent amount of accumulation now I guess but the real killer is how crazy windy it's been.

I'm so glad I don't live on the East Coast anymore or Germany. On the weekends, I'd have to walk to the kennels in knee deep snow because I didn't have a car (not that it would have helped since the roads would often be closed). Or I'd have to walk through a blizzard to the commissary and then double back with my environmentally friendly grocery bags full of food.

Hope you guys are alright and that you've all stocked up on snacks, etc...  :)

We got 28.5" here in Setauket.

Reminds me of the good ol' Buffalo days, but Suffolk county's snow removal is horrid compared to Buffalo's god-tier-level snow. Horror stories of people getting trapped on the LIE for 9 hours, sleeping in their cars... I was so lucky I got home last night - took me 3.5 hours, then when I got into my development, I constantly got stuck in the snow banks. Till I said "fuck it" and left my car in the street and walked home :P

I love snow, except to drive in it. I hate driving in it so much that I'd rather have no snow than have to drive in it.

Yay, finally made it out of my house. Took me an hour to get to my mom's house for dinner (it's 8 miles away, usually takes 10-15 min to get to). Got stuck in a snowbank while at the gas station, luckily a whole bunch of people were on hand to push me out. Roads are still horrible. Abandoned cars in the middle of the road and shit... the best was a Buick tilted at a 45 degree angle perched atop the metal separator.

Definitely not going into work tomorrow since it doesn't look like the roads will be clear, and I have an hour-long commute. With some of the most expensive taxes in the country, you'd think our snow removal would be a bit beefier :P
