Meh. "Quick News" that was not.

That was a good catch, but it's also asinine to think that Bungie would focus so much on character customization, and then not include a means for the player to enjoy the fruits of their hard-won labor.

It looks very pretty. I don't think that was the most exciting portion to demo though especially compared to some of the other shooters today. I'm sure it will at least be a good game though based on their pedigree. But the video doesn't get me overly excited just yet.

I really do think they didn't pick great parts to demo. The other problem I guess would be that this whole idea sounded really fresh and original a few years ago but somewhat less so now. Also I'm not really a fan of bungie's storytelling.

But I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until they show more.

This game has great art direction and really nice mech designs. I don't like MMOs though so not sure if it's something I'd play. I like Bungie games though...will see.

This is sounding awesome the more I read into it. Reducing it down it's like Halo + Borderlands + Guild Wars 2 (- stuff I don't like about Halo and Borderlands). I wasn't getting the demo at Sony's conference, and it doesn't sound like the type of game to demo well. And Peter Dinklage is voicing the not-cortana orb thing!

I haven't read if it has competitive multiplayer or if it's coming to PC.

The apps are probably meant to help suck people into continuing to play and have them spending money, downloading DLC etc. Kind of like Candy Crush notifications on Facebook or games that bombard you with notifications when something new is out. I'm fine with that, but I'll be largely ignoring it... when more games are doing this kind of stuff, it'll all just be noise and wasted time.

I love the way that gameplay video starts with someone strolling at walking pace, looking up at all the majestically designed ruins... classic. In practice, people will just be running and gunning everywhere and hopping around like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

I do think this looks good though. I'm getting bored of the cinematic scriptedness of BF and COD, and multiplayer with and without similar gimmicks. I think the likes of Titanfall and Destiny might be coming out at a good time..

I love the aesthetic, but can someone explain how the gameplay works? I watched the video at the Sony presser and I'm still kinda confused. Is it a MMO Borderlands? Is there PVP? Are there defined goals, or is it just running around the game world looking for stuff to do?

They haven't really fully explained everything yet. We know there will be towns where you can meet up with other players, it's controlled in 3rd person in these areas so you can see your gear. You pick up missions that take you to specific locations and do what are essentially dungeons. I believe it's been said these are repeatable.

They've said you can "meet up" with other 4 man squads during these dungeons. In practice it looks like some of these dungeons can spawn into bigger events and these are where you can meet with other players. They haven't said if these are random or what.

FYI you can't get banned for pvp in WOW, so no. Killing players is legit.

I got banned once for making a bald character with a german name, going on the French server and parading around the auction house speaking german things like "Ill be in Paris for breakfast"

I got the opposite impression. MMOFPS is a really interesting genre and we've finally reached the point where it's possible to make large-scale environments and fill them with capable and diverse enemies. In most traditional MMOs you are just waiting for hotbars to fill up, but now you have good alternatives with real-time combat in games like PlanetSide 2, Borderlands 2, Destiny, Warframe, and War Thunder. What I didn't like with this trailer was that it still looks like a simple MMO. I understand that it's probably prohibitively expensive to make the world even more detailed, but that doesn't stop me from wanting it.

It looks fine to me. And Bungie normally delivers solid gameplay. The trailers look like what I expect.

That being said I think that's the problem. It looks exactly like I expect. It looks like Borderlands. And while I'm fine with more Borderlands, for all the hype and length of time, I thought it would bring more to the table on the innovation side when it comes to genre mixing. Maybe it does and they just haven't showed it off very well.

But otherwise it looks like a serious borderlands in space. How appealing that concept is to you probably is related to how much you like Bungie or how much you liked Borderlands.

my feeling is that Destiny's innovation probably lies in its online infrastructure i.e. the way Bungie has made it seem like passively getting into a group and having a jolly co-operative experience is their key focus with this game, not necessarily ground-breaking first-person shootin' thangs. They already kinda locked down fantastic shooting with the Halo games, I can respect wanting to try something a little different with the online infrastructure.

However that gameplay still looks ass
