After seeing more media of Infamous I'm going to skip it for now and wait on impressions from you guys and/or a price drop. And I'm getting MGS4 for the X1 because my MS credit. The PS4 is still my go to machine for BF4 though!

My ps4 keeps shutting down completely from standby mode. And then in order to turn it back on I have to unplug it and plug it back in. It does this after about 3 days in standby mode. I assume this isn't normal?

Yeah. After googling around it seems like its something from an update a couple of months ago. Some people have it shut down mid game randomly. Mine doesn't. But information is pretty sparse. I think I just started noticing because I've been playing it less recently.

My PS4 overheats on certain games, it's fucking annoying. AND this is my replacement unit since my first system had the same problem.

Without fail, 10 minutes into Infamous the fan gets really loud and the system gets quite hot. It does the same for other games like Thief/Killzone but never to the extent from Infamous. The crazy part is it doesn't shut off like a regular overheat but I'm sure it's dying a slow death. I'll probably do a replacement once I get Ground Zeros and beat it since there doesn't seem to be much out there for spring.

Both, but it's mainly the exhaust air.

I do have it in an entertainment system shelf but there's at least 6 inches of space on both sides of the system and it has 4 inches above it. I mean I guess being in a cabinet could be the problem but none of my other systems have that problem and the ONE has even less room but it's always whisper quiet.

BF4 is the only game that fucks up my PS4. I've had it hard lock 3 different times while playing (unresponsive controller, on/off switch doesn't work, have to unplug it), and the CE blue screen error has come back since the latest patch. I have mine on top of my computer desk hutch, open air all around it, but inFamous still cranks the fans into high gear. If we're this early in the gen and games are already putting that kind of stress on the unit, it does not bode well for hardware longevity.

Yeah, that should be enough space. Maybe you should wait for the next batch of systems before you get it replaced again.

yeah, I'll get it when it drops in price. Full price of a year late release is too much even with the bundled content. Sony was 'fair' about these HD packs on the PS3. usually two to three games for budget price. the only difference between this and those (or microsofts and nintendos) is keeping the multiplayer mode.

Always enjoy it when there's developer commentary in games and I haven't played the DLC yet. and if it is 60fps I might try the multiplayer mode again. the limited time I spent with it seemed interesting but was held back by technical problems. I recall other posters here enjoying it.

My son got one for his birthday. I got him Infamous SS since he played the shit out of the last 2. The thing is barely audible during long play sessions.
You guys aren't kidding though. He has Infamous and the free PS+ games. He also has $70 in his PS+ wallet and there is nothing to buy. He isn't allowed to play Mature rated games so that really limits his choices also.

my ps4 actually gets louder than my launch ps3 when there's a disc. I assumed it's because disc noise wasn't a priority with games running off the hard drive and streaming movies.

also the controller build quality is poor. mine's already developing problems after two dozen or so hours. dual shock 3 took ~5 years and 360 pad took ~3 years. I'm waiting until it's addressed before buying another one for my laptop.

I think both next gen systems have sub par controller builds. I have two PS4 controllers and one X1 controller and all 3 are starting to creak and bend during play sessions. oh well.

Mine is super silent. Not a joke about the fact that I don't play it. I really do love how silent it is. My X1 is really damn silent too. Too bad it's the size of a brick and weighs more than one.

I have a quiet system and I've yet to discover any issues with the gamepad. My first two PS3 pads lasted maybe three years and that was on the short side. If the sticks start to crumble I will replace the controller before the first year warranty runs out.

Maybe it's because of the climate? It's currently about 20°C and 30% humidity in my apartment. The system is far away from anything else generating heat and there is plenty of space around it.

I rented him the Marvel one. He didn't play it very much.

Are they still charging $10 to play rented games like COD online? My son is out of town for a couple days and I wanted to bring it down to the main TV and rent a couple games.

1) COD doesnt use online pass

2) Some companies do have online pass (Saints Row 4 afaik uses one, but thats last gen so nevermind that). RESEARCH.

3) If there was an online pass, I'm unsure if this is disabled on the service level (EA, uPlay), or you need to download the FREE Online Pass (some come with perks and goodies, primarily EA games).

If you're looking at PS4 games, you shouldnt have to worry about online passes.

yeah, it's amazing how little both consoles have announced. ps4 has driveclub, a game delayed by a year. xbox one has sunset overdrive. hooray.

the order getting delayed is maybe not bad. the setting and atmosphere look real good but every bit of gameplay shown is dull, lipstick on gears/uncharted.

Bump! I recently moved to a new state and took a new job. Then yesterday my unused vacation time from the last job was paid

What I'm trying to say is I was irresponsible and bought a PS4 :'(

The system makes a poor first impression. No point in complaining about it (since I'm sure its been covered) but I really hope a firmware upgrade is announced at TGS. At least the controller is great.

The only game I have so far is Plants vs. Zombies (fantastic) but I'll probably pick up Diablo 3 and/or Destiny soonish. The PSN store is really pushing destiny aren't they. Ads for it everywhere. That and PS+. It would be nice if the store was smart enough to know I'm a plus subscriber and remove all the JOIN NOW ads
