Haven't played the game yet but it seems like their is a bit of franchise fatigue going on here same as with a lot of franchises.
Well I mean Crysis has never been some great series. Yeah it's got good gameplay, but I don't know something keeps it from reaching the Halo's of the world. I hate to say story and character, but hey people have really latched unto that in Halo. The Crysis series' plots have been pretty poorly told and whats there is yawn inducing. They still try though.
But with Crysis 3 it just kind of seems like they made a game because they had assets lying around. There's dosen't really feel like there was a drive here. Like I said, it's just more Crysis 2. At first when they were like "it's back in New York" it received a lot of groans, in all honesty that didn't turn out to be a problem, since it doesn't feel like a retread. But, you know the game just dosen't do enough with it's "jungle city" sitting. There's no atmosphere and really not enough "holy shit this a city yet a jungle" levels. What I'm saying is in the 1st one, you felt the enviorment and you got everything that came from being in a tropical island. You were jumping into pools of water, shooting at tress. It was great. And in two I'm jumping from metro tracks, fighting in a parking lot, defending in random resturants or train stations, and running from cover between cars on the highway. The environments felt cool and true to what they were about. Outside of the beginning of Crysis 3, I can't say they explore enough of the "jungle city'. It kind of just devolves into environments that could be in any FPS.
And I guess in the end, maybe Crysis just didn't need more then two installments. The universe certainly doesn't deserve more then 2 and well we got most of this gameplay in 2.
As for franchisee fatigue. Yeah, I guess it's because developers refine for the sequel and then think they can drop a pretty similar one for the third.
