Resident Evil 6 PC benchmark - feels like ?? fps
« on: February 21, 2013, 12:17:55 PM »
DL from mega:

Not mine, but these are your "results."  A japanese style scoring + ranking system like DMC4 bench, but without FPS:

Your PC S-ranked that benchmark, what more do you need to know?

It's a console port. It probably just checks to see whether your computer was made in the past 5 years, if so, you can run it.

It actually looks optimized for PC, the IQ is a lot better than what I was expecting. I tried to take screenshots but they just came out black.

Went down to 22 in the scene with all the zombies (second pic Raban posted), A rank as well. Kinda disappointing, even though I only have a 6870.

Strange that yours goes down to 13?! I have a 2500k, so better CPU, but I thought GPU has a way bigger impact?

i5-2500k @ 4.0ghz
570gtx
Everything maxed, no Vsync

drops as soon as the camera pans out, then 30-50fps for most of it.   It was all weird looking (scenes layered on each other, weird camera focusing and pop-in), was that just part of the bench?

Huh, I didn't seem to have this problem but I'll take a closer look when I get back to my PC. Could you get screens of what you're talking about?

weird, it's not showing up in screenshots.  It's like a retained ghost image on the screen, except not-- there were scenes from the second part ghosting behind the first part.  Also, while I was taking screenshots, these ghost images were jumping around all over the place.

and uh, this gets my GPU up to 80 degrees? :lol

I'm gonna try a restart.

Don, did you try tweaking the settings to get rid of those weird glitches? I ran the benchmark again just now and everything was fine. Nothing at all like what you have pictured. I was reading through the GAF thread and some people seem to have the same issue? It's really strange.

In my case this is more related to the expected quality of the title rather than anything else. But yeah it is one of the nicer things about the PC market

I understand the criticisms against this game, but I think people are way, way too hard on it. Granted, it has its share of flaws. If you were any kind of fan of classic RE I'm sure it's another dagger to the heart, but the game is like 80% action and the action is fucking stellar. Once you start to utilize the extra mobility you've got and mix it up with your weapons, melee and projectiles, you feel like a super-badass. What more is an action game supposed to accomplish?

i'll check out that thread, they've probably already figured it out, I didn't really bother to mess with it much.

it's weird cause fraps was taking screenshots that look how it's supposed to look.

Haven't played RE6 yet (waiting for supreme version) but you're probably right

Fans of Japanese games are the worse, they just want the same game with new story like Tiesto

I don't even like the old RE games, just RE4.

I've played through Leon's portion two times now and then Chris' mode. I can't be bothered to touch the other ones. Leon's campaign was just boring. No real interesting encounters or real attempts at tension. It's not a good action game. You fight waves of uninteresting enemies with no real dynamic going other then "here's some monsters before you". And that for the most part feel like bullet sponges more then anything. And there's really no thought to these encounters, unlike in RE4. In RE4 you had levels and enemy encounters that made you think how you were going to approach enemies. I hardly use every gun in an action game, I hate Sniping, but see in RE4 I'm constantly thinking about what guns and when and where I should use them. And this is all thanks to the game's fantastic enemy and encounter design. In RE6 there's nothing like that.  Just here's a bunch of enemies in boring levels. Guns don't feel unique and fuck I'm pretty sure the shotgun doesn't even work like a shot gun works in games. And sure you now have all this movement in your character, but who cares? It's extremely clunky to do and well completely unnecessary or so my playthroughs on normal told me. Compare this to say Vanquish where movement is so easy to do and you'll see a difference.

And then in Chris' campaign you have enemies shooting you and it plays like a poor man's Gears of War. But hey then Dead Space thought this would be a good idea too.

So no I did'nt even think this was a good action game.

That was my problem when I tried the demo. I think the last two mainline games have just been misguided. I think 5 was at least tolerable/enjoyable for its time. RE 6 sounds like the ultimate case of trying to please everybody and instead pleasing no one.

Drivers fixed the glitches and improved performance a little.  It still drops to 30 when the camera pans out and it stays 30 throughout the museum part.  Not sure how people with lesser specs are getting S rank (I get A), but I guess most of this will be worked out by launch.

probably just an engine limitation

my 6 cores are actually running at 4.6 ghz plus I'm running 2 680s but I still dropped to 30 when carmera pans out

Museum part is fast though

I played RE 4 recently which put me in a positive mood about the resident evil series for the first time in a long time. So I decided to try out RE 6 on the PC...

It's fucking terrible. Far worse than I imagined. I don't know if I can stomach brute forcing myself through this game like I planned. Its awful. I have no idea what they were thinking. This makes Revelations which I think is average so far seem utterly amazing.

I'm early in the first campaign but I haven't enjoyed anything I've played yet and playing feels like a complete drag. I've heard the different campaigns are based on different flavors of Resident Evil but this seems like nothing I want from the series so far. It feels like the wrong direction. Like a bad copy of American action games. I'm not against action but this doesn't feel right for a good action game so far.

I've played 5 and its okay but nothing I love. But yeah I will definitely play through revelations. At least it isn't painful like RE 6 is so far. Also the PC keybindings are weird and the game never really bothers to explain a lot of the controls or systems in pace.

And it never will explain those mechanics, nor are they good.

Enjoy having the camera take control away from you every now and then screwing you up.

i couldnt even force my way through it. gave up after like 3 levels. the camera sucked, the combat felt loose, they didnt explain the controls, and worst of all was the checkpoints that only came every 10 minutes. no scratch that, what was the worst was how quitting and restarting booted you back to the start of a level instead of the last checkpoint. THAT was what kept me from sticking with it. i dont have time to do the same boring sections over and over again just because capcom cant implement a decent coop mode.

fuck that game. resident evil has spin-offs that are better than this.

Just play Leon and Ada's stories in RE6 and forget that the other two story modes exist.  Might help!

Revelations is much more painful than 6.

Don't agree with that at all.  Revelations was fun and the Raid Mode has way better replay value than the stuff RE6 offered.
